NFL Scores Week 2: 4 Scorelines We Still Can't Believe
The Titans double up the Ravens?
The Bills score 35 in the second half to beat the Raiders?
Detroit puts up a 48-spot on the Chiefs?
What is going on here?
Week 2 of the 2011 NFL season was filled with surprises, comebacks and scores we still can't believe.
Let's take a look at the four scorelines that made us scratch our scalps yesterday.
Green Bay 30, Carolina 23
1 of 4The 30 points scored by the powerful Packers wasn't surprising, it's that the lowly Panthers scored 23 points against what is supposed to still be a top-notch Packers defense.
Cam Newton eclipsed his 422-yard Week 1 performance with 432 yards in this one, although he did throw three interceptions.
Newton scampered in the end zone from inside the 10 with less than 40 seconds remaining, but he orchestrated many respectable drives, and his team was 6-of-13 on third downs.
If the Packers are going to make a legitimate run at defending their Super Bowl title of a year ago, they'll need to greatly improve on defense, especially in their secondary which could be difficult if safety Nick Collins is out an extended period of time.
Detroit 48, Kansas City 3
2 of 4Although the Chiefs were blown out by the Bills in Week 1, some believed they would rebound in Week 2.
Not the case.
I was expecting the Lions to win but 48-3? Really?
Detroit outgained Kansas City 411 to 267, and Matt Cassel threw for only 115 yards along with three interceptions.
Yikes.
Matthew Stafford was the second straight quarterback that made carving through Kansas City's secondary look fairly easy, and the Chiefs offense was completely stagnant all afternoon.
Now that Jamaal Charles is lost for the year, KC has become the front-runner in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
Tennessee 26, Baltimore 13
3 of 4The Ravens totally manhandled the Steelers in Week 1, so they'd have no trouble with the Titans, right?
Wrong.
Matt Hasselbeck threw for a whopping 358 yards, and Kenny Britt hauled in nine catches for 135 yards and a score.
The Ravens' revamped offense was surprisingly held in check throughout the entire game.
After Joe Flacco found Ray Rice for a 31-yard touchdown in the second quarter, they couldn't get into any kind of rhythm.
Rice ran for a pedestrian 43 yards on 13 carries while Flacco threw two interceptions and finished the game with a 51.2 quarterback rating.
Just another day in the NFL, right?
Buffalo 38, Oakland 35
4 of 4Instant classic anybody?
The Raiders dominated the first half and headed into the locker room with a 21-3 lead.
Then, the offensive fireworks were lit.
Ryan Fitzpatrick engineered five touchdown drives in all five of Buffalo's second-half possessions including the game-winning toss to David Nelson with 14 seconds remaining.
There were five lead changes in the second stanza, and Jason Campbell's Hail Mary heave with no time on the clock was almost caught by rookie wideout Denarius Moore who had a huge day.
Certainly an emotional roller coaster for Bills and Raiders fans alike.
