WWE Night of Champions 2011: Mayhem Destroys CM Punk vs. Triple H Ending

Brandon GalvinJun 7, 2018

WWE destroyed the Night of Champions 2011 main event between CM Punk and Triple H with their flawed booking.

This can’t be what CM Punk signed up for when he re-signed with WWE over the summer.

This dream feud with Triple H has been nothing short of a stinker. It could have been an epic feud with Triple H defending WWE’s honor against a martyr like Punk.

There has been a slight hint of that, but nothing worth talking about because WWE can’t seem to do anything right with this feud.

Kevin Nash Is Back…Really?

The inclusion of Kevin Nash was meaningless from the start.

Seriously, I thought they “fired” this guy—why on Earth did we need his ugly mug back on WWE programming?

Nash doesn’t add anything noteworthy to this feud or the WWE Universe. It was pointless to have him attack Punk at SummerSlam and it was still pointless to have him attack Punk and Triple H at Night of Champions.

I can’t wait for him to be removed completely from the WWE. Can’t he go infest another company? The man can’t do anything worthy of TV time.

Please, WWE, let that sledgehammer to the face be the last time we see him!

The Awesome Truth Are Nothing More Than Frauds

The run-in by The Miz and R-Truth had potential as soon as they made their way down the ramp.

Then it all went downhill.

Instead of having the top two conspiracy theorists team with the ultimate conspiracy theorist in Punk, the Awesome Truth attacked Triple H and Punk. Go figure.

Instead of putting the Awesome Truth over as legitimate threats, they were made to be complete jokes. They could have gained massive respect and leverage in their pursuit to make everything
“right” in the WWE Universe, but they were buried—again.

I don’t mind losing to Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston, but I do mind these two being dismissed for nothing more than mid-card jobbers despite being the two best heels on television right now.

The wrestling gods must have been irate to see the damn referee block and counter a punch from The Miz.

So, I’m supposed to believe The Miz is a threat to anybody when the referee can one-up him? Might as well call it a career right now, Miz.

WWE Is in Dire Need of a Massive Threat

Am I supposed to believe that Nash, Miz and Truth are in cahoots? God, I hope not. We desperately needed to see Punk, Truth and Miz form an alliance against the likes of Triple H (and sure, Nash, if WWE is so unjustly intent on letting him clog my television screen).

WWE had a prime opportunity to create one of the hottest angles since the nWo formed by having Punk, Truth and Miz form their own version of a nWo-esque takeover. Punk would further add legitimacy to everything Truth and Miz have been saying for weeks.

Why Did Triple H Go Over Punk?

WWE were so compelled to keep Punk a face in the eyes of the fans and put Triple H over for no damn reason.

Triple H is an established superstar. He’s not going to be working matches on a regular basis and won’t be wrestling for nearly the same amount of time Punk will be for WWE. Triple H is in the twilight of his career while Punk is in his prime. Punk needed this victory.

You’re telling me the WWE Board of Directors couldn’t just say Triple H got to keep his job due to the massive amount of interference?

We had to see Triple H overcome insurmountable odds to retain his position, but bury Punk in the process?

WWE Ruins a Golden Opportunity

The entire finish made zero sense. Yes, we have questions heading into RAW, but how much do you care? I would rather forget any of that nonsense even happened than hear WWE’s absurd logic behind the booking.

A great match was ruined by the misuse of workers who could have further pushed WWE into one of the most exciting eras ever.

WWE's creative team had Punk, Miz and Truth against Triple H and the WWE locker room on a silver platter. Punk aligning with two other conspiracy theorists would have added legitimacy to Nash's involvement and progressed Triple H as WWE's knight in shining armor.

Instead, WWE did what they always do. They failed to realize they had a golden opportunity spoon-fed to them. They were too blind to see the potential to form a dominant stable that could spice up WWE programming for years to come.
