WWE Night of Champions 2011: Why Triple H Can't Beat CM Punk

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

Of all the matches announced for WWE Night of Champions, the most difficult one to predict a winner for has to be the main event between Triple H and CM Punk. But when you really stop to think about the direction that the story has gone, and where it should go, the only logical outcome is Triple H losing.

It is always a dangerous proposition to bet against Triple H in a match, especially when you take into account the fact that he has lost his only other match this year at WrestleMania to The Undertaker, but if anyone on the roster can afford to lose it is him.

The biggest reason that you have to bet the farm on CM Punk in this match is because Triple H has something at stake in this match - his position as WWE Chief Operating Officer - while Punk has nothing to lose.

And if that is not enough to convince you that Punk is going over in the match, perhaps this little tidbit of information from Wrestlezone.com will:

"

According to several sources within WWE, that Vince McMahon is expected to return to TV in the very near future, possibly as soon as Sunday or Monday night.

As we have been reporting, WWE wants this year's Survivor Series PPV to be a major event...Vince will be returning to TV to build towards the big PPV.

"

While it is possible that McMahon could be returning to television tonight, I think the more likely scenario will be Triple H losing the match, leaving WWE without a COO, and the Board of Directors will have to make a battlefield promotion.

Enter: Vince McMahon.

And by bringing McMahon back into the mix, WWE has set up several directions that it can take the storyline between Punk, Triple H and the McMahon family.

I have been critical of WWE in recent months for the way that storylines have been handled, and while this one is far from perfect, I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since all of the powerful people who know how to build a wrestling angle—namely Punk and Triple H—will be directly involved in setting it up.

But regardless of where the story goes after Night of Champions, it is obvious that Triple H's time as Chief Operating Officer of WWE is coming to an end.
