Browns vs. Colts: 3 Second-Half Adjustments the Browns Must Make
The Browns are fortunate to find themselves in a good position heading in to the second half. The Colts haven't finished drives with touchdowns, which means that the Browns have been able to stick around despite very little success on offense.
What adjustments should the Browns make a halftime so they can get their first win of the season?
Give the Ball to the Offensive Playmakers
1 of 3The Browns have had success when Joshua Cribbs has gotten the ball. The second touchdown in the second quarter is attributable to a big passing play to Cribbs. Continuing to find creative ways to get Cribbs the ball will bear fruit for the Browns.
Peyton Hillis has only 30 yards on nine rushes, but he's the kind of big, bruising back who can wear down the Colts' undersized defensive tackles and ends. Giving him the rock even more in the second half will be essential to generating positive yardage on offense.
Get More Pressure on Kerry Collins
2 of 3Kerry Collins is a pretty immobile quarterback. The Browns haven't taken advantage of that yet.
The Colts offensive line is inexperienced (especially on the right side) so the Browns need to push that area with blitzes and solid pressure.
The Browns need to follow the Texans' blueprint and get to Collins to force turnovers.
Milk the Clock with the Running Game
3 of 3With the second touchdown scored in the second quarter, the Browns find themselves up 14-9. The Browns need to ride their running backs to victory by keeping the ball away from the Colts.
The Colts are vulnerable up front, and if the Browns can expose this vulnerability by punishing the middle of their defense with Peyton Hillis running the rock, they can hold on for a victory.
The Browns can't let the Colts opportunistic defense pick off Colt McCoy. The Colts D is notorious for key late game stops with interceptions and forced fumbles. Taking care of the football on offense will be essential if the Browns hope to win this one.
