Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer out for Remainder of Minnesota Twins' Season

Collin KottkeSep 18, 2011

We can rebuild him… and that’s apparently what the Minnesota Twins are doing to Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer.

Morneau has been shut down for the rest of this season and will undergo minor knee surgery to remove a cyst.

Morneau has been out of the lineup since August 28 with mild concussion symptoms from diving for a ball.

This concussion stems from one suffered last season in Toronto when Morneau got a knee to the head sliding into second.

The Twins have been banged up all year, and that definitely includes Morneau, who’s been out with concussion symptoms, a pinched nerve in the neck, wrist surgery, and probably countless other injuries that got lost in the mix.

The other half of the M&M boys is Joe Mauer, who is also out for the rest of the year.

Before Friday’s game the team announced that Mauer wouldn't play again for the rest of the year due to a case of mild pneumonia.

Mauer was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., which has sent up some red flags for Twins fans. Your neighborhood doctor can diagnose pneumonia, and they probably do on a daily basis, so why did the Twins send Mauer to one of the best hospitals in the world?

Some fear that something worse may be wrong with Mauereverything from Lyme disease to Rheumatoid arthritis has been thrown out therebut neither the Twins nor Mauer are saying anything.

Mauer has had a variety of sidelining conditions, as well such as upper repertory issues, viral infection, and bilateral leg weakness.

The Twins have had a rough season; it looks as though they’ll lose 100 games one year after winning the AL Central with virtually the same team on the roster.

But that roster has not always or seemingly ever been healthy.
