NFL Picks Week 2: Detroit Lions Will Lose to the Kansas City Chiefs

Jeff GrantJun 2, 2018

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) and Detroit Lions (1-0) will bang helmets Sunday afternoon inside Ford Field with the kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT on CBS.

Detroit has been one of the top stories in the league in finishing the 2011 NFL preseason with a 4-0 straight-up and against-the-spread record, while also picking up its fifth consecutive regular-season win with a 27-20 decision over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as one-point road underdogs.

Las Vegas oddsmakers have become a believer, sending the Lions out as 8.5-point home favorites this week. The line has been bet down at some places by a full point.

Casual bettors should know that the Lions were released as four-point favorites in this exact contest before the preseason started.

Public perception is one of the biggest things that bookmakers rely on, and no game provides more distance in the category than this one.

Kansas City was absolutely smacked in the mouth in its 41-7 season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills as 3.5-point home favorites. It didn't come as much of a surprise due to head coach Todd Haley's complete disregard to exhibition play, as the team failed to deliver a victory in four games.

One thing that the Chiefs' franchise is known for is getting itself up off the mat when falling below .500.  The team is 9-0 ATS in this situation the past 12 years.

Detroit is a complete and utter failure when hosting a team as a favorite when the opponent is off a loss, registering a 12-18 SU record in the situation.

The Lions are also looking ahead to road games against the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, followed by hosting a Monday Night Football contest against the Chicago Bears.

Watch out, 1-1 is on the horizon.
