Week 2 Fantasy Football Projections: Tom Brady and 4 QBs Good for Major Points

Andrea HangstSep 15, 2011

Quarterbacks are necessary components of your fantasy football team, and just like in real life, the right one can make all the difference.

There are some fantasy quarterbacks who are no-brainer, every game starts. And then there are others who benefit from great matchups week by week.

Here, I will highlight four quarterbacks who will have great weeks for their respective teams, and for your fantasy roster as well.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots (vs. San Diego Chargers)

Tom Brady had 517 yards and four touchdowns (and one negligible interception, a rare feat in fantasy terms) in his team's Week 1 win against the Miami Dolphins.

While he won't likely put up that amount of yardage against the defensively superior San Diego Chargers this week, it's not impossible to say that he can't get four scores for the second week in a row.

That tough Chargers defense could give Brady fits (last year, he was held to just 159 yards and a touchdown against the team), but I personally doubt it this time around.

I see this game evolving into a shootout, and that means points for your fantasy team.

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers (at New England Patriots)

In a shootout, obviously two quarterbacks benefit. That's why I believe Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is primed to have a good fantasy football week for your team.

Last week, Rivers threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Minnesota Vikings. This week, I do not see him repeating the errors that led to these turnovers, though, he did throw one against the Patriots last season.

It's going to be a big day for Rivers, one of the most consistently valuable fantasy football quarterbacks of the recent past.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills (vs. Oakland Raiders)

The Bills' Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for four touchdowns and 208 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, and I only see his yardage numbers rising this week against the Raiders.

West coast teams traveling east generally struggle, and I see this being the case with Oakland this Sunday. The Raiders gave up 304 yards and a touchdown to Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton in their Week 1 win.

This week, I don't see the Raiders pulling out a win if Fitzpatrick puts up that many yards. I also don't see him held to a single passing touchdown.

While the Bills have struggled to win games with Fitzpatrick at the helm, he doesn't take the brunt of the blame for that fact.

He has performed extremely well in each subsequent season he's been in the league, and he's quickly turning into a highly-coveted fantasy quarterback.

Chad Henne, Miami Dolphins (vs. Houston Texans)

The Houston Texans still have trouble defending the pass, though, you wouldn't know it by their Week 1 blowout win over the Peyton Manning-less Indianapolis Colts.

This week, they take on a far more difficult challenge when they travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins with quarterback Chad Henne at the helm.

Against the Patriots in Week 1, Henne threw for 416 yards and had two touchdowns and one interception.

I see him able to match or exceed his performance this week against the Texans. Going into the 2011 season, Henne received very little love by analysts and fantasy football GMs alike.

Now, he's looking like one of the more attractive quarterback options, especially for those who are unstable at the position and are looking for a good choice to play based on matchups.
