WWE: Will Night of Champions Be a Sign for the Return of Stone Cold Steve Austin

Daniel DulaneyJun 7, 2018

WWE has a rare opportunity this Sunday at Night of Champions. They have the ability to possibly create one of the most incredible angles that has been around in the last decade.

History tells us that when the WWE had this opportunity in the past, it hasn't always capitalized on it. They have either rushed the storyline, picked the wrong wrestler to add to the storyline or chose the wrong time to push the angle.

According to what I have seen in the past few months in the WWE, Night of Champions has the ability to become the perfect storm of controversy, excitement and most importantly, massive revenue.

Here is what could ignite the WWE for the next six months if it plays its cards right:

At Night of Champions, Nash and Laurenitis come out and join Punk in an effort to create change in the WWE. HHH loses his job as the COO and either Laurenitis or one of the McMahons retake control.

At Hell in the Cell, HHH gets Cena to partner with him against Nash and Punk. Who was the third person to join nWo? Hogan. Who is similar to Hogan in many ways and has even admitted to Punk that they are similar within the past two months? Cena. Cena turns on HHH at the PPV and joins Nash and Punk.

At Survivor Series, the Rock will appear to "layeth the smackdown on all of their candy asses." The Survivor Series will include team Punk vs team HHH. This may even turn into the new nWo (Punk's team) vs the WWE (HHH's team).

Over the next few months, the new nWo (team Punk) will continue to have the upper hand all the way until Wrestlemania. The double main event will be a few superstars of the "Attitude" era of the old WWF vs the new nWo (those wanting to change the WWE).

The Rock vs. Cena (we already know this will happen). Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk (a match that fans have wanted to see for years).

If this happens, this could create the biggest buy rate of any Wrestlemania PPV ever.

Can the WWE pull off this scenario? And can the "Attitude" era Superstars stop the new nWo?

Does HBK still have a few matches left in his tank? Would the "Dead Man" defeat a member of the nWo to go to 20-0 and Wrestlemania? Would this angle completely demolish TNA Wrestling?

Only time will tell.
