NFL Picks Week 2: Will Giants or Rams Prevail on Monday Night Football?

Ryan PhillipsSep 14, 2011

Both the St. Louis Rams and the New York Giants limp into their Week 2 matchup looking for answers.

The Giants have a horribly depleted secondary that allowed Rex Grossman (of all people) to throw the ball all over the field on Sunday. Grossman finished the afternoon having completed 21-of-34 passes for 305 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. That was good enough for a 110.5 quarterback rating in the Washington Redskins' 28-14 win.

Offensively, the Giants didn't get much out of their own quarterback. Eli Manning was 18-of-32 for 268 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception. They also didn't generate much on the ground, as Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs led a rushing attack that picked up just 75 yards.

New York is a mess right now. The Giants converted just 1-of-10 third down opportunities and allowed four sacks, while Manning was hit seven times.

The Rams were also beat up in a 31-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Quarterback Sam Bradford left the game with a bruised index finger on his throwing hand, while Steven Jackson injured his quadriceps after just two carries. Bradford's finger is not expected to keep him out this week, but Jackson will likely miss Monday night's game.

The good news for St. Louis is that Cadillac Williams filled in admirably for Jackson, racking up 19 carries for 91 yards.

While the Rams defense didn't look great in Week 1, they were facing a much better offense than the Giants will bring to their Week 2 matchup.

Bradford and his receivers have the ability to pick apart the Giants' secondary, while the defensive front—led by Chris Long—will put pressure on Manning and force him into mistakes.

While neither team looked promising in Week 1, I expect the Rams to patch things up faster than the Giants. St. Louis should take this one on Monday night.
