2011 IDP Fantasy Football Week 2: Start'em or Sit'Em

One of the crazy parts of playing IDP fantasy football isn’t just keeping on top of injuries like Eric Berry or Jon Beason, but finding out who is keeping or losing jobs around the league. Going one step further, it’s also important to know if your players are three down options or do they get pulled out of the game in predictable run or pass situations.

In our Week 2 start or bench report for IDP fantasy leagues, I will touch one various players who maybe were even expected to be top options at their position and now have lost jobs, like Altraun Verner of the Titans. I’ve found that job movement tends to happen the most at corner and the least on the front line. Still, movement is a constant, but unless you’re in a very active IDP league, just keeping on top of a small portion on the changes can give you a big edge when it comes to keeping your team updated.

Start’em

Pat Angerer / Sean Lee

Both linebackers broke out week one with big days, and it looks like they are ready to make an impact going forward. I have these linebackers in our waiver wire write-up this week, so refer to that article for more information.

Paul Posluszny

It was a bad game for POZ Week 1, as the Jaguars offense seemed to have the football most of the first three quarters, and when the Titans actually were on the field, they were throwing the football, with Chris Johnson not ready for a full load. Posluszny should find more activity this week, as the Jets are coming to town and will want to test Jacksonville on the ground.

Reed Doughty

Unless we hear that LaRon Landry is a go this week, look to backup Reed Doughty as a viable starter. Doughty had a solid performance in Week 1, and the strong safety position gets a lot of activity in the Redskins defense. This week, the Washington will stay at home and play the Cardinals, so expect Doughty to be active, as the Cardinals are coming off an impressive offensive showing against the Panthers.

Sit’em

Alterraun Verner 

Just another day in the life in the world of IDP fantasy football, as top corners from a year ago are only a benching away from becoming irrelevant options. Alterraun Verner was a top five corner in many IDP leagues a year ago, but it was because he was playing opposite Cortland Finnegan and opposing quarterbacks looked his way. Sure, Verner has decent tackle skills for a corner, which is why he racked up a high tackle total last year.

New coaching staff, and now Verner is out of the startling lineup, with Jason McCourty playing opposite Finnegan at this time. Look to Verner as an option to release or at least keep him on your bench until he can get back in the starting lineup.

Quintin Mikell

It looks like the Rams are going to use Quintin Mikell as the team's free safety after all and Craig Dahl will remain as the strong safety. While Mikell had a nice sack against Michael Vick with a stripe fumble to go with it, I would look to Dahl as the better play going forward.

Bradie James

One of the buzz players in IDP this week is Cowboys inside linebacker Sean Lee, and the reason why is because it appears that the Cowboys are going to rotate Bradie James and Keith Brooking and keep the youngster on the field full time as long as he’s playing well. Lee should be considered a possible LB-2, and James is nothing more than a LB-4 at this time.

Bernard Pollard

This one hurts because when Bernard Pollard first signed with the Ravens, I thought he wouldn’t win a job. Then, a few weeks later, it looked like Pollard was going to win the Ravens strong safety spot after all, and I moved him back into the top 15 defensive backs. Come to find out, while watching the Ravens play the Steelers that Baltimore used Tom Zbikowski in the starting role against the Steelers, and Pollard is nothing more than a bench hold.
