Marques Colston Injury: New Orleans Saints Should Give Moss a Shot

Eric BallSep 13, 2011

Will Randy Moss be back in the NFL soon?

There were multiple reports that the New Orleans Saints had invited the 34-year-old, retired receiver to their facility over the weekend.

NFL.com has confirmed the rumors are not true, but that doesn’t mean this story isn’t going away.

The Saints are already beat up at the position.

Lance Moore missed Week 1 because of a groin injury and his status for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears is still up in the air. To make matters even worse, Marques Colston suffered a broken right collarbone in the waning seconds of Thursday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. He will be out for around a month.

The Saints offense is built on a strong receiving corps and can’t afford any more injuries.

The return of Moore would be a big help, because if he doesn't, the Saints are left with Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, Courtney Roby and Adrian Arrington.

Moss is tied for second in all-time TD catches at 153 TDs and is fifth in receiving yardage at 14,858.

He had an ugly 2010 that featured three separate teams and few special plays, yet that doesn’t mean Moss still can’t be a productive receiver.

The Saints would be a perfect fit.

What can QB Drew Brees do best? Throw the deep ball.

What is the best way to utilize Moss at this stage in his career? Throw him the deep ball.

Sure Moss refuses to go over the middle and isn’t the greatest teammate in the world, but the core of the Saints is way too strong to be broken by one guy. Brees can keep his ego in check and keep his mind on football.

Expect this rumor to flare up again at the first sign of trouble for the Saints.
