Fantasy Football Week 2: Dolphins RB Reggie Bush's Fantasy Stock Plummeting
Running back Reggie Bush was brought into the Miami Dolphins offense as a game-changer and playmaker, two things he never achieved while a New Orleans Saint.
This optimism didn't carry over in the fantasy football world, however. On Yahoo!, Bush is owned in only 84 percent of leagues, and played as a starter in a mere 42 percent.
And fantasy GMs have a right to be skeptical, if Bush's performance in the Dolphins' season opener last night against the New England Patriots is any indication.
Bush rushed 11 times for just 38 yards; he had more success as a receiver, catching 9 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. He did not break 100 yards on the night.
Stats like these don't make him a fantasy football starter, let alone a stud.
Despite being on the field for every down, Bush could not make a significant impact on the Dolphins rushing game, which was held to just 98 net yards on the night.
He was a non-factor on the goal line, where there was no way he could make it through Patriots defensive linemen Albert Haynesworth and Vince Wilfork.
This will be a continuing issue for Bush, no matter who he faces on the defensive line. He lacks the type of power and force that would make him a useful goal-line back, and with that, his touchdown production will be limited.
If Bush's production doesn't improve, he will likely be switched from an every-down back to a situational role; either way, it appears to be a lose-lose for fantasy GMs with high hopes for Bush to be a productive starter in 2011.
