NFL: 13 Teams That May Want Tim Tebow's Services
Forget the media circus, the smile, the “goody two shoes” image and the hype the media has put on this kid and then took shots at him like he was a dart board (yes, some of this was unwarranted and he put some of it on himself).
Tebow is a hard-working athlete who says the right things, does the right things and makes everyone around him better (I know, sounds like a sports ad, but it's true).
I for one am not a fan, but I realize the importance of Tebow being in the NFL.
There are a few NFL teams that could have used his services this weekend for various reasons. Yes, the NFL season is one week old and the Broncos were less than stellar in their performance at home against the Raiders.
Starting quarterback Kyle Orton was not as efficient as he should have been and while his stats show 300 passing yards, the fans called for Tebow often when Orton made mistakes, like a costly fumble in the game.
Former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Herm Edwards said on Sports Center Tuesday morning that if the Broncos continue to slide, head coach John Fox will have to see about what Tebow can do under center.
He also said offenses usually take full shape within five weeks of the season starting.
So for now, Orton will remain the starter, regardless if it is popular with the fans or the media covering the team.
These teams may want to have Tebow on their team before the end of the season.
San Diego Chargers
1 of 13Mike Tolbert's injury was not as bad as first reported, and Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com wrote on his blog that the fullback has been cleared to play.
But with that said, injuries happen daily in the NFL. Tebow is great in goal-line situations and would be a battering ram of sorts to get the ball into the end zone.
He may not throw a pass in San Diego behind Philip Rivers, but he could be a threat to score in the red zone.
Minnesota Vikings
2 of 13The team already has Percy Harvin on offense. Why not bring in his teammate from Florida?
Donovan McNabb did not look like the answer in the team's first game.
Tebow to Harvin would be nice to see in Viking purple.
Jacksonville Jaguars
3 of 13I am not a fan of this, but he would sell tickets.
With a new quarterback (Luke McCown) under center and one waiting on the sidelines (Blaine Gabbert), this is a dangerous move on the Jaguars' part.
If they bring Tebow in to sell tickets, fans come to the stadium expecting to see the hometown hero play. If he is for a handful of plays, then the faithful are partially happy.
If not, this all backfires in the team's face.
Indianapolis Colts
4 of 13This team is reeling. It lost its franchise player in Peyton Manning and the quarterback situation looks grim.
Tebow cannot lace Manning's shoes in terms of talent, but he can be a spark for the team and something positive to talk about.
Pittsburgh Steelers
5 of 13Let's just hope the loss to Baltimore was an aberration.
Tebow becomes Tomlin's version of "Slash" and plays receiver, fullback and quarterback.
He would certainly inject some new life into the offense, and the Steelers faithful would love having him on the team.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6 of 13They lost to Detroit last week, which should not come as a surprise since the Lions are a much better team as of late.
Tebow comes home to the Sunshine State and helps sell tickets, which has become an issue in the Tampa area recently.
There isn't a need for him to play quarterback on this team with Josh Freeman already in place, but it would be interesting to see if he could play in goal-line situations like Mike Alstott used to play.
Miami Dolphins
7 of 13I'll just get all the teams in Florida out of the way.
Miami did not look horrendous against the Patriots, but there are concerns.
Chad Henne threw for over 400 yards in a losing effort.
There is a diva on the team in Reggie Bush. Would Tebow add to the mix in South Beach?
Hmmm. Reggie Bush, LeBron James and Tim Tebow...
Tennessee Titans
8 of 13They have Jake Locker waiting to play, but their offense looked sluggish against an improved Jaguars defense.
Could Tebow play receiver?
Right now, Matt Hasslebeck is under center, but for how long remains to be seen. He made some decent throws last weekend, but also overthrew coverages on three errant passes.
Cleveland Browns
9 of 13I am not all that excited about Colt McCoy as the starter, and if there was a place where Tebow could come in and be immortalized outside the state of Florida, this might be the place.
He is a better athlete than McCoy and taller, too, so he can read defenses better.
It may be the best fit of all.
Dallas Cowboys
10 of 13Jerry Jones has been known to do stranger things.
Tebow doesn't fit the Cowboys' "look," but again, when has that stopped Jones from pulling the trigger on a trade or draft move that surprises everyone?
Philadelphia Eagles
11 of 13You figure the Eagles broke the bank signing players in the offseason, so what is one more?
Also, Andy Reid will be under immense fire if this team does not make the playoffs or win the Super Bowl.
He needs all the karma he can get, and Tebow is a winner.
Kansas City Chiefs
12 of 13Todd Hailey got the team to the playoffs last season, but they made a quick exit.
Now, he gets blown out in the home opener to of all teams, Buffalo.
Yep, he is on the hot seat, and it may get warmer.
Tebow would be welcomed by Chiefs fans. Matt Cassel is a good quarterback, but not great, and the backups are not solid.
This would be a good fit as well.
Denver Broncos
13 of 13I put them on the list because they have him on the team and frankly, this team needs a lot of work.
As long as he is on the team, regardless of the record and the offensive performance, they are relevant.
Tebow isn't ready to start in the NFL, but the fanbase loves him and that is something you cannot put a price on in this league.
