NFL TV Schedule Week 2: 5 Games That'll Continue Week 1's Chaotic Trend
Week 2 is generally when we see the NFL shift back to form, but this season will continue Week 1’s chaotic trend.
Week 1 saw several upsets amidst abysmal performances from teams that desperately needed to get off on a hot start.
It already looks like we can kiss the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff hopes goodbye. These four teams looked terrible out of the gate.
The Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and San Diego Chargers put together strong performances of their own, as expected.
Monday Night Football did not disappoint in the slightest as it featured two big-time division rivalries.
The Dolphins looked strong to start behind Chad Henne and Reggie Bush, but the only unanimous MVP in NFL history Tom Brady continued to pull away. He dissected Miami’s quality secondary for a Monday Night and Patriots record 517 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Think he saw Cam Newton set the Week 1 rookie passing record with 422 yards? Yeah, I think so.
The Raiders and Broncos seemed to scuffle every other down in the rainy meeting. Oakland managed to hang on to the lead late in a game that saw Sebastian Janikowski kick a 63-yard field goal and Darren McFadden rush for 150 yards.
Which was the best game of Week 1? Easily the opening potential NFC Championship preview between the Saints and Packers, which game down to the wire. We may not see a better game all season, but the Cowboys and Jets did a great job trying to one up them.
One game isn’t the end all, be all, but we’re in for an earth-shattering season if Week 1 was any indication.
5. Oakland Raiders at Buffalo Bills
1 of 6Look what we have here: two of the NFL’s cellar dwellers for the better part of the decade are 1-0.
Ryan Fitzpatrick put a whooping on the Kansas City Chiefs 41-7. I had the Chiefs on upset alert, but not that badly!
The Buffalo Bills—yes, the Buffalo Bills—will start the season 2-0.
Let that sink in for a minute…
The Raiders will have to travel to the East Coast for a 1:00 PM game with less preparation time after playing on Monday night.
You know that is? That’s bad news for Raider Nation.
Fitzpatrick will eat away at a Nnamdi Asomugha-less secondary that impressed against Kyle Orton's Broncos.
Stanford Routt and Tyvon Branch are a good CB-S duo, but WR Stevie Johnson is better. Johnson is an emerging elite WR and will be on full display Week 2.
4. Cleveland Browns at Indianapolis Colts
2 of 6Amazingly, the Colts could be staring at a 0-2 hole without Peyton Manning.
I guess it’s not that amazing when you read it back.
The Browns, despite losing to their lowly division foe Cincinnati Bengals, are a solid overall team. This is the same team that beat the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots in back-to-back weeks last season.
The Colts were steamrolled by the Houston Texans in Week 1. They’re back at home, so the adrenaline will be pumping for their opener, but Manning still isn’t walking through the door.
Peyton Hillis is a bulldozer and can easily rumble for massive yards. Joe Haden looks like he could be a Pro Bowl cornerback, so Reggie Wayne will have his hands fill.
Upset? Highly likely.
3. Arizona Cardinals at Washington Redskins
3 of 6So, get this, the Cardinals or Redskins will still be in first place in their respective divisions after this contest.
Whodathunkit?
Like the Raiders, the Cardinals have to fly to the East Coast for a 1:00 PM game. It’s generally disaster, but Arizona has consummate professionals in Larry Fitzgerald, Kevin Kolb and Adrian Wilson.
Still, I’m expecting Washington to actually win this one. They took down the Giants and have the luxury to continue that momentum at home.
Cam Newton dissected a solid Cardinals secondary, so expect Rex Grossman to enjoy success. Tim Hightower will be fired up to play his former team and will carry the ‘Skins to victory.
I can’t believe I’m writing it, but the ‘Skins will have a formidable lead in the NFC East.
Wow.
2. Kansas City Chiefs at Detroit Lions
4 of 6I wanted to put the epic late-afternoon AFC showdown between San Diego and New England, but the Lions going up 2-0 and the Chiefs falling to 0-2 is too good to pass up.
The Lions have been awesome dating back to the end of last year. They went back to Tampa Bay—where they snapped their historic 26-game road losing streak—to finally begin a season undefeated.
The Chiefs enter the game after being annihilated by Fitzpatrick and the Bills at home.
They lost Eric Berry for the season with an ACL injury and have to compete against Matthew Stafford and Calvin “Megatron” Johnson who hooked up for two scores in Week 1.
Could the Chiefs get blown out again?
Yes, they can... and will.
1. Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta Falcons
5 of 6New Orleans and Chicago could’ve been here or at No. 2, but who could pass up Michael Vick’s return to Atlanta as the Eagles' starter?
Vick will enter arguably the most hostile environment he’ll face all season. He shouldn’t, considering the Falcons have Matt Ryan now and Vick brought them success, but he will.
Philadelphia started a bit slow against the Rams, but LeSean McCoy dominated with 137 total yards and two touchdowns. Matt Forte shredded Atlanta's defense so we can only expect McCoy to do the same.
Atlanta will look to control the clock with Michael Turner. Philly's front seven had difficulty with Steven Jackson and Cadillac Williams. Turner is one of the top downhill runners in the game and will be difficult to stop.
This is a potential NFC Championship preview—that is if the Falcons manage to avenge their loss against the Kevin Kolb-led Eagles last year.
Atlanta could very well go down 0-2 in the conference to two legitimate Super Bowl contenders. They did not look like the Super Bowl contender many envisioned.
Just like that, the most competitive division in the NFL will be staring up in the NFC.
