WWE: Why CM Punk Is Taking a Back Seat in His Own Storyline with HHH

Marc QuarantaSep 12, 2011

I have been watching the promos and the work in the ring by HHH and CM Punk. I have watched with utter fascination at the chemistry between these two, and then throw in some weeks with Kevin Nash and it has been priceless.

Sure, I've read the articles, and agree with them, that the CM Punk/HHH feud happened way too quickly and that most of it has been rushed. But I also forget that point every week, and I'm sure most of you do too when we see these two guys going at it back and forth with each verbal put down. It's classic promo work by these men.

But here is the point of my article. When CM Punk cut his instant classic "shoot" promo weeks before Money in the Bank, I was floored. I loved it. We all knew that WWE found something special, and that CM Punk's work on the mic and in the ring was going to change the WWE.

I was rooting for him. I was pulling for him. I wanted him on the mic more, and I wanted him to play a bigger role on TV. And he has been doing that. John Cena was giving him his best. Vince was giving him his best. CM Punk was getting the best out of everyone.

But things are different now. Sure Punk is still saying some interesting stuff, but I find myself rooting for HHH. I want HHH to knock Punk on his ass. Maybe because HHH is what wrestling used to be, when it was fun. He was part of the Attitude era. So when he gets real serious and tells punk he is going to kick his ass, I loved it.

And week after week, I'm becoming less interested in what Punk is saying. Punk, who rocked the "pipebomb" for weeks, in my opinion, is getting destroyed on the mic by HHH, he was even getting destroyed on the mic in the last couple promos of his feud with John Cena.

When he mentions something "real" like Chris Masters, or Ice Cream Bars, or reveals him, and HHH's real names, the crowd eats it up. It's real and no one's done that, Ever. But when he stops doing that, when he ignores the crowd and speaks man to man with Cena or HHH, I find myself wanting him to shut up. I find him smug and irritating at times.

Now sure, I'd rather have this CM Punk than the one we've had over the last couple years. He is good for TV, and all I'm saying is that I'm just finding myself wanting someone to knock him on his ass.

And in one quick thought, I think I would LOVE CM Punk if this guy was a heel. Imagine a guy who speaks the truth, who actually says real behind the scenes stuff...but is a heel. The things he could say about people, about the WWE universe would be fantastic. I know he started this as a heel, but the fans loved it because he started becoming "the voice of the voiceless" instead of the "anti-WWE" guy. Insulting the WWE universe for things they say on Facebook/Twitter stuff like that would be a great heel. Maybe the best of all time.

But anyways, you might hate me for this article, may disagree, or may like it. That is the point. I wrote this because I want to hear what you think. Are you still marking out over CM Punk's work, or are you floating in the same boat and want to see HHH whoop his "skinny fat ass?"

Thanks, guys!
