Manny Ramirez Arrested: Former Slugger Jailed Following Domestic Dispute

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Manny Ramirez will go down as one of the greatest hitters of his generation.

But his career has been marred by accusations of using performance-enhancing drugs, as well as loafing in the outfield and he's just been arrested in Florida after an alleged domestic dispute with his wife, Juliana.

Witnesses reportedly told TMZ.com that Ramirez was taken out of his Weston, Florida home at around 7 p.m. EST on Monday after he was involved in an altercation with Juliana, and is currently in custody.

The 39-year-old, since retired from baseball as a prominent figure for the Boston Red Sox throughout the years, was a 12-time All-Star during his career, slugged 555 home runs and won two World Series rings in 2004 and 2007 with the Red Sox. The 2004 World Series win was considered one of the greatest comebacks in World Series history and Ramirez was named the series MVP.

But since his glory days with the Red Sox, things began to go downhill for Ramirez. He was suspended 50 games in 2009 while with the Los Angeles Dodgers for testing positive for hCG, a women's fertility drug sometimes used to restart natural testosterone production after a steroid cycle.

He retired this April when he was informed he had violated baseball's drug policy again.

Ramirez's latest incident is yet another example of retired athletes getting in trouble with the law. It's almost becoming uncommon for a well-known athlete to stay clean outside of his sports world.

For many athletes, they become so embedded in their sport that they lose touch with the real world. Numerous athletes have been arrested for DUIs and, in some cases, actually stealing after spending all of their money on a lavish lifestyle.

Ramirez was oftentimes criticized for apparently being a little off center, but it also added to his charm.

"Just Manny being Manny," people would say.

This time, however, there's nothing charming or humorous about Ramirez's latest alleged transgression.
