Fantasy Football Week 2: 5 Week 1 Studs That Face Tough Matchups

John RozumJun 7, 2018

Regardless of all the fantasy football studs that are consistent every week in the season, there's always a few games that can be a real thorn in the side for a slow in productivity.

It's basically inevitable, and we see it happen to studs every week.

They're projected a bunch of points, but then manage to only scrap a few against the dominant defense that lines up across the ball.

So who's going to have it rough in Week 2? Read on if you dare.

Jamaal Charles

1 of 5

Against a Buffalo defense (that was suppose to be weaker this year) in Week 1, K.C. RB Jamaal Charles was limited to only 56 yards on ten carries, as well as five catches for nine yards, but did manage to get one TD.

Well it doesn't get any easier in Week 2, because Charles must face the Detroit Lions.

With their front seven including Ndamukong Suh, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Cliff Avril and Stephen Tulloch, Matt Cassel's going to have trouble finding time to throw, let alone Jamaal getting his rushing yards.

However, don't bench Charles this week, but just be aware that his productivity is going to wait another week.

Matt Ryan

2 of 5

Despite throwing for over 300 yards against the Bears' D, Falcons' QB Matt Ryan threw one interception, was sacked five times, hit an additional 11 and also fumbled once.

Not to mention he failed to connect with anyone for a TD.

And in Week 2, Atlanta hosts the Philadelphia Eagles who we all know have Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nate Allen in their secondary alone.

Not only is rookie WR Julio Jones going to struggle, but Roddy White will be double-teamed more often than not.

When Matty Ice lacks again, don't say you weren't warned.

Drew Brees

3 of 5

Yes, Drew Brees threw for over 400 yards and three TDs against a Green Bay defense that still has Charles Woodson, Clay Matthews and Tramon Williams.

However, even though Brees is a better QB than Atlanta's Matt Ryan, shutting down Ryan in Week 1 only adds to their Bears' confidence.

In addition, Brees was sacked three times and hit another six, so Chicago will definitely get their's as well.

Only difference here is that instead of Clay Matthews coming off the edge, it's Julius Peppers.

So it's safe to say that it's not getting any easier for New Orleans.

Tom Brady

4 of 5

Coming to New England in Week 2 are the reloaded San Diego Chargers, who have as much talent as anyone in the NFL.

In addition to that, although it's only Donovan McNabb and the Vikings, coach Norv Turner's defense held Minnesota to 28 passing yards on 15 attempts.

Obviously the Vikings aren't a passing team, but it's the NFL and everyone is good.

And to prevent any offense from gaining 30 yards through the air is pretty ridiculous.

Now yes, Tom Brady will perform much, much better than McNabb, however, don't be disappointed when San Diego holds the Pats' passing game to under 200 yards and one TD, if New England is lucky to get that much.

Larry Fitzgerald

5 of 5

The reason why the Washington Redskins upset the New York Giants was because of their defense.

Coach Mike Shanahan's D force kept Eli Manning under pressure all game long, prevented him from throwing a TD and sacked him four times with an additional seven hits.

Also, that pick was returned for TD.

So with that in mind, don't expect Kevin Kolb to receive a lot of time while in the pocket, or anywhere behind the line of scrimmage for that matter.

In turn, it will put a damper on Larry Fitzgerald's production.

And even when Kolb has time, expect Fitz to be heavily covered by Washington DBs such as DeAngelo Hall and Oshiomogho Atogwe.
