Fantasy Football Week 1 Waiver Wire Advice: Get 'em or Don't Sweat 'em
There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are. Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills
If you thought last year was a fluke, Fitzpatrick’s four TDs are proof of the contrary.
Ruling: Get ‘em.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Matt Hasselbeck, Tennessee Titans
Hasselbeck knows he has a good thing in Kenny Britt. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns—both to Britt, who finished with 136 yards. Decent backup option.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
Wow. 422 yards, two touchdown passes. Wow.
Eighteen rushing yards and another score. How can you not snatch him up?
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Tarvaris Jackson, Seattle Seahawks
I ripped him for his preseason play, and while he was better (21-37, 197 yards, 2 TDs, INT) I still wouldn’t consider him a solid option.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
Rex Grossman, Washington Redskins
Grossman deserves an apology from me and all his bashers. Consider this endorsement my apology. Rex completed 21 of 34 passes for 305 yards and a pair of scores. That’s some solid stuff right there.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Cadillac Williams, St. Louis Rams
Cadillac replaced the injured Stephen Jackson and ran for 91 yards on 19 carries to go along with six catches for 49 yards. He’s definitely worth adding.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Ben Tate, Houston Texans
Arian Foster and/or Derrick Ward should return soon, but you can’t leave Tate available in your league. If he gets a start, he’ll put up monster numbers.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
LaDainian Tomlinson, New York Jets
If you think LT is done, you probably want to guess again. He doesn’t have as much value in standard leagues, but in PPR leagues he’s still worth a look. LT had 16 rushing yards and six catches (seven targets) for 73 yards.
Early Doucet, Arizona Cardinals
Kolb only looked his way three times, but he made the most with three catches for 105 yards and a score. Look for more targets going forward.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks
He was targeted six times, catching four passes for 83 yards and a score. Nice game, but I can’t justify dropping a player you just drafted for him.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
Jabar Gaffney, Washington Redskins
Gaffney caught three passes for 54 yards and a score. He was targeted seven times though. Nice bench option.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Matt Spaeth, Chicago Bears
Spaeth caught a touchdown pass, but as Greg Olsen can attest, Mike Martz isn’t about the tight end.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
Ben Watson, Cleveland Browns
McCoy and the Browns, on the other hand, will utilize the tight end.
Watson caught three passes for 45 yards and a score. Just as important going forward, he was targeted seven times.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati Bengals
Gresham caught six passes (eight targets) for 58 yards and a score. He figures to be quite active.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Scott Chandler, Buffalo Bills
It ‘s hard to dismiss a guy who caught five passes (five targets) for 63 yards and two scores, but I’m not quite ready to consider him roster-worthy.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
Ed Dickson, Baltimore Ravens
Dickson caught all five of his targets for 59 yards and a score. He’s a solid TE2 with upside to become a TE1.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
Jeff King, Arizona Cardinals
King caught a pair of passes for 61 yards and a score, but I’m not ready to say Arizona is going to suddenly feature their tight ends.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
Fred Davis, Washington Redskins
Cooley played, but Davis did the damage with five catches (six targets) for 105 yards. It appears the torch has been passed.
