Kelly Kelly: Why WWE Diva Is the Female Version John Cena

Robert KnightSep 12, 2011

Anyone who has read my articles when it comes to commenting on divas knows my feelings about Kelly Kelly. Everyone loves her because she looks great and... that is it. Okay, people dig her personality as well.

She was introduced to the WWE on ECW. She was the chick that danced and was half naked all the time. Everyone watched it, everyone loved it and everyone wanted to know more about her. Can she wrestle? Is she really a WWE diva or just a hot girl? What will WWE do with her if she is a diva?

There were many questions when Kelly Kelly came about, and to this day she remains one of the most popular divas and a fan favorite all over the WWE Universe. If anyone asked anyone who Kelly Kelly was, they would be able to answer. She seems to be liked by just about everyone.

Not me.

When Kelly Kelly comes on the screen, I frown, my body is disgusted and my brain wants to kill itself. The site of her makes me sick, and I cannot stand to watch her in the ring. Her music is irritating, and I desperately want to turn off her matches, but I do not in order to judge her fairly.

This could be a shocker for some people reading this, and the question that is popping into their heads is, "Why?"

Another one might be "How can anyone not like Kelly Kelly? She is gorgeous and is the Divas Champion. She is cute, sweet sounding, and is a good person." That is what the slideshow will be about. Just like my dislike for how John Cena treats himself when it comes to his character (or lack thereof) in the WWE, I dislike Kelly Kelly for similar reasons.

In this slideshow I will reveal aspects of her that make me sick and to show to people how much she truly is the female version of John Cena.

So without a further ado, let the slideshow begin.

Her Change of Character

1 of 6

When John Cena came into the WWE, he was nothing like he is now.

He was not Super Cena, winning every match, winning every time the belt was on the line and a "safe" character for kids to look up to. He was a rapper who cursed like crazy, was hated by fans because of being heel and playing it so well, worked matches well and even put out a rap album.

Heck, his finishers were the "F-U" and the "STFU." Both of those moves were popular with the fans for the names and the attitude John Cena delivered with them.

WWE decided to change to a "PG" rating because they wanted to market to a more "kid-friendly" audience. When that happened, there went John Cena's entire persona.

WWE had to market a new persona for him and decided on "hustle, loyalty and respect." When this occurred, "Super Cena" was born.

John Cena became invincible at PPVs, won almost every WWE title match he was in, went almost a year as champion, and established his "5 moves of doom."

He became boring and mundane, and the hatred he got as a heel fell over to him as face because he never changed anything about himself to add more flavor and be interesting. Most importantly, he was a fake character.

Fans know that how WWE presents him is not who he really is at all. Those are the educated ones. To add to it, he made almost every PPV match he was in predictable.

When Kelly Kelly entered the WWE, she was a hot magnet for men all across the country. She was hot, sexy and natural, and she was not shy about it. She debuted on ECW, and she was often subjected to dance-offs and stripping. It got WWE ratings, and she appeared to be the new hot diva for WWE to take advantage of.

There was even an incident at a night club where "racy" pictures of Kelly Kelly were taken and shocked most of the locker room. She did not wrestle that often and was never a serious contender for a Divas title.

Then WWE decided to go into the "PG" era. When that occurred, no more stripping, no more dance-offs, no more half-naked Kelly Kelly. What WWE decided to do with Kelly Kelly was to market her as "the good girl next door."

WWE could not have been serious after what they did with her in her debuts.

They were and continued it. She does act much the way she used to in terms of being who she really is. She walks to ring, waves to the audiences and smiles the entire time. She is loved by the fans and is a crowd favorite.

Because of this, WWE decided to market her even more by putting her in serious contention for what is now the WWE Divas Title. She won the title and has held it ever since. She wins almost every single one of her matches, and her win/loss record for 2011 is 21-7-2. When she does lose, it is usually in a tag-team match.

Kelly Kelly basically went from the hot stripper to the shy model girl who rarely every loses.

She Is Not a Diva; She Is a Model

The title says it all and is not John Cena related.

She is popular because WWE knows how to market her as much as they can. Instead of being in the square circle defending her title and showing her fans she deserves the title, she poses for magazines.

Not that past divas did not pose for magazines—that comes with the job. But the divas who posed for magazines were proven wrestlers in the ring. Take a look at Stacy Keibler.

She posed in many types of magazines and looked sexy every single time. She was a fan favorite and loved by almost everyone.

She is not the only one either. There are the other divas, such as Trish Stratus, Lita, Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie. They were loved by the fans, fan favorites all around and posed in many magazines.

There is a big difference between all of them and Kelly Kelly. They were all proven in the WWE ring. Being a WWE diva means that they look good and wrestle as well.

Kelly Kelly does only one of those things. She has not proven herself to be a real competitor in the WWE ring. Whenever any of the divas listed above was in a wrestling match, people sat and watched because they were proven in the ring and put on a show. With Kelly Kelly, there is no secret that the Divas Division is suffering.

With Kelly Kelly just walking around looking pretty, she is hardly a diva in any sense of the word.

She Cannot Wrestle

3 of 6

Just like John Cena, Kelly Kelly cannot wrestle to save her life.

This one is not a big surprise for people, as the WWE Divas Division has been weak for many years.

Kelly Kelly has been the Divas Champion for almost four months now, and it has felt like longer. When she won the title, it was not a special match by any means and did not last very long. The only reason why she even got the shot was because it was a "Power to the People"-themed Raw show and won 52 percent of the vote.

Since then, she has hardly lost, but not because of her in-ring skills. She has not lost often because of her popularity, her merchandise sales and the fact she is well know for just looking pretty. She does not even deserve the title because of the little she knows wrestling-wise in the ring.

Her finisher is a move that does not even hurt and is a huge rip-off from Billy Gun's "The Fameasser." She yells and screams randomly like it is supposed to make her look mean, she does the move "stink face" and to top it all off, her matches do not go past five minutes if they even pass four.

Go and watch ANY of her matches as Divas Champion. They are boring, dull, the same match over and over, nothing new and an absolute drag.

John Cena was always champion because he sold, and that is exactly the case for Kelly Kelly, despite both of their limited move sets.

She Does Not Put over Her Opponets

4 of 6

Just like what WWE does with John Cena' opponents during his "Super Cena" days, Kelly Kelly does not put over her opponents at all.

The most recent proof of this was with Beth Phoenix.

Everyone knows she can wrestle, is a great wrestler and is entertaining to watch. She also has a great finisher that looks painful, to say the least. She attacked Kelly Kelly saying she was sick of a barbie doll like her prancing around with the Divas Title and making a mockery of the division.

When this happened, the IWC exploded in agreement and thought there was going to be a change in it after all. Beth would end up facing Kelly Kelly at SummerSlam for the title. Everyone thought that this would be the PPV where the title was taken from Kelly Kelly and a statement would be made.

Instead of a good back-and-forth match, the fans got about five minutes of WWE trying to show that Kelly Kelly has some decent moves to put on. Beth did show off some in the match, but was completely wasted by the fact that it ended in a quick roll up for Kelly Kelly to retain the title.

Despite all of that, WWE still refuses to take the title off of Kelly Kelly. After this match, this was not mentioned again for weeks, and it almost looked like they were going to drop the Beth and Kelly feud all together.

Just like John Cena, Kelly Kelly puts over her opponents and then crushes all.

She Is Overrated.

5 of 6

When you have someone who cannot wrestle, who is popular only because they look good, who somehow is champion for a long period of time, who sells merchandise but cannot back themselves up at all—the person is severally overrated.

When Kelly Kelly is stripped down to her core, the only thing that she has going for her is her model looks. She cannot do anything else in the WWE besides look good and put on crappy matches that last five minutes or less. She is joke of a champion because she is in a division that has been a joke for many years in the WWE.

No one takes it seriously anymore, but when I hear Kelly Kelly's name I am supposed to take her seriously because she is popular and looks good? That is all she has. She does nothing, and the proof is always out there when she step into the ring and attempts to wrestle.

Just like John Cena, she is not that great at what she does, and if she did not have the popularity that she had, she would have been released by WWE a long time ago. Kelly Kelly does not deserve the success she has and is often put over wrestlers who deserve the title more, like Beth Phoenix and Natalya.

Those divas have shown they know how to wrestle and more than deserve to be champion, but WWE just keeps leaving the title for Kelly Kelly despite her not really deserving it.

I wish WWE would really see what Kelly Kelly truly is: an overrated model with no skills, and someone who does not belong in a WWE ring.

The End

Thanks for reading, everyone.

I know there are going to be plenty of people out there who disagree and will flood the comment sections with hatred for what I said.

I welcome all of it, because I want to hear your honest thoughts and opinions on the article, on Kelly Kelly and if you think she is a female version of John Cena.

If the hatred does not run too deep, check out my other articles and comment on those as well!

I appreciate all the feedback I can get.

I am going to end this with a pic of a true WWE diva. Enjoy!
