WWE Night of Champions: 6 Other Matches We'd Love to See Added to the Card

Tom ClarkJun 7, 2018

It's that time again.

The past few pay-per-views from WWE have exceeded many fans' expectations, and we all wait, fingers crossed, that Night of Champions will be more of the same.

Thus far, we have five matches that have been officially booked.

Kelly Kelly versus Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship, Randy Orton versus Mark Henry for the World Title, Air Boom versus The Miz and R-Truth for the WWE Tag Titles, Alberto Del Rio and John Cena for the WWE Championship, and the one that everyone is looking forward to—CM Punk versus Triple H.

It's a compelling card, to be sure. But it's not over yet.

This is Night of Champions, after all. The championship matches will not end here, nor will the drama surrounding other rivalries that do not involve title belts.

There is a lot more for fans to sink their teeth into, and here are six that I would personally like to see.

Zack Ryder Versus Michael McGillicutty

1 of 6

Okay, this one will probably be a dark match.

But, these two have worked each other before, and on September 5th edition of RAW, Ryder and Jerry Lawler defeated Michael and David Otunga.

The main selling point for this match could stem from the heat the two former New Nexus members have with Lawler, who has accused them of having no personality, no charisma.

McGillicutty could challenge Ryder to a match, and even demand that Zack's Internet Championship be put on the line.  Michael's point is that he wants to prove Lawler, and the fans, wrong, that he has more than enough charisma to wear the belt that Zack had made famous in his online series.

After all, there has been a recent push from fans involving making the Internet Title a legitimate championship, this could be a step in that direction.

Daniel Bryan Versus Sin Cara

2 of 6

This one has got to happen eventually.

The last time these two guys worked each other, Bryan was his normal, competitive self, wrestling someone who had earned his respect, and received it in return.

But, we all know what happened next.

The controversy around Sin Cara, and the two men who are portraying the character, has perhaps come to light, as reportedly WWE plans on moving ahead with both men in the same ring at the same time.

If that indeed does happen, a match involving Bryan would be the perfect time for it to transpire.  Fans are perplexed as to why Sin Cara did what he did to Bryan, and even though he spoke, he provided few answers as to his motivation.

Daniel Bryan seeing double at Night of Champions would be a cool moment, and one that I would like to see.

Wade Barrett Versus John Morrison

3 of 6

Call this one wishful thinking.

Why? Because both Barrett and Morrison should be booked on this pay per view.  Each man is too good to be left out, though that is likely what will happen.

Barrett is a great heel, but seems to be used primarily to get other guys over, like Sheamus.  Hard to believe that once upon a time, he was so close to winning the WWE Championship.

Morrison is, well, Morrison.  He is the underachiever of the company, notoriously underutilized, and used these days mostly as a gimmick worker, his crazy athletic ability being the primary focus.

The only heat that these two could possibly have could have began this past week on RAW during the big eight man tag team main event, but it would be something that could be built upon on this Monday.

Yeah, probably not.  Maybe next time, guys.

Dolp Ziggler Versus Alex Riley Versus Jack Swagger for the United States Title

4 of 6

This match has been brewing for a while.  Since Jack Swagger suggested to Vickie Guerrero that she take him under her wing, there has been big time tension between he and Dolph Ziggler.

For the most part, fans don't seem to care, as both guys are heel.  But, throw Alex Riley into the mix, and you have a point of interest for the crowd.

With the United States Title as the prize in this match, it would be a great contest between three of RAW's best and brightest.

Young wrestlers working hard to entertain, with a championship on the line, under the bright lights of a pay per view.  Nobody is better at that than WWE.

Sheamus Versus Christian

5 of 6

Christian is no stranger to high profile main event matches.  Working Randy Orton for the World Championship placed him in the upper ranks on SmackDown, and his recent heat with Sheamus has opened the door for a new rivalry.

This match, while not centering around a championship, is still important for both guys.

Christian's role as a top heel has been firmly established, and if Sheamus wants to continue on his upward climb as the program's newest face, he will have to go through Christian first.

Sheamus's rough and bruising style would mesh with Christian, whose sneaky, underhanded demeanor would disarm the Celtic Warrior, throwing him off his game.

A heel like Christian, playing endless mind games with a face like Sheamus who is constantly trying to rip his head off, would do nothing but build heat between the two.  This would lead to the moments when Sheamus finally does get his hands on Christian, causing the crowd to pop accordingly.

These two could potentially have a great feud, and it all could really kick into high gear at Night of Champions.

Cody Rhodes Versus Ted Dibiase for the Intercontinental Championship

6 of 6

The general consensus among many WWE fans is that Cody Rhodes is on his way up.

Blessed with natural ability, and becoming more proficient in the ring with each passing week, Rhodes appears to be headed in the same direction as his father and his brother before him.

Add to that the fact that Ted Dibiase is himself a young man with a world of talent and athletic ability, and you have a great match on your hands.

They have an obvious history with Legacy, and considering that Cody just turned his back on Ted, the formula for a very good rivalry is being laid out right in front of us.

Many argue that the Intercontinental Championship has been rather meaningless the past few years, a title that was used as a stepping stone to the top, now being underused.

But, with two workers the caliber of Rhodes and Dibiase in the mix, and suddenly the bar has been raised for Intercontinental Championship quality matches.  They would undoubtedly add respect, and recognition, back to the title that at one time, was considered a coveted prize in the company.

This match has to happen, and when it does, it could, quite possibly, steal the show.
