Saints vs. Packers: Aaron Rodgers and Company Don't Miss a Beat in Week 1 Romp

Eric BallJun 2, 2018

Have you caught your breath yet?

Fans across the country were exhausted after watching the Green Bay Packers defeat the New Orleans Saints 42-34 in front of a sold out crowd at Lambeau Field.

In a game chock-full of offense that featured touchdowns via the pass, run, kick and punt return, all that was missing was a defensive touchdown.

When it mattered the most, the Packers got the key defensive stop. With zero seconds left on the clock, Green Bay stuffed Mark Ingram at the one-yard line when the Saints were still within striking distance.

But the story of the game was offense. The two teams combined for 876 yards of total offense, including 692 through the air.

The star in the first game of this season was the star of the last game of the 2010 campaign: Aaron Rodgers.

The Super Bowl MVP was 27/35 for 312 yards and three TDs. Three of the incomplete passes were throwaways...meaning he had a grand total of five miscues.

He was incredibly sharp considering it was an abbreviated offseason. It took him less than five minutes to get the Packers the first points of the 2011 season.

With his quick release and terrific decision making skills, the only way to stop Rodgers is by throwing lots of pressure at him.

The Saints did the opposite.

The Saints front four were incredibly disappointing and rarely made Rodgers feel uncomfortable in the pocket. With the ability to scan the whole field...Rodgers is unstoppable.

Sure the season is only one game old, but it's already clear that Rodgers is going to be one of the leading candidates to win the MVP of the league.

He already has a Super Bowl MVP, now it's time for the next trophy.

He's off to a great start.
