NFL Predictions: Which New QB Will Shine Most?

Ravi LullaSep 7, 2011

This year in the NFL, there are several franchises who have pinned their hopes on new starting quarterbacks they have brought in.

Whether it be through the draft, trade or free agency, teams are always looking for their franchise signal-caller.

Here is my ranking of the top four quarterbacks with new teams in order of which will be the most successful in 2011.

4. Tavaris Jackson

1 of 4

I'm not here to try and convince you that Tavaris Jackson is Michael Vick.  What I am here to say is that, despite his reputation, Tavaris Jackson can be a functional professional quarterback.

In his one year as a the full-time starter in Minnesota, Jackson actually performed better than Mark Sanchez did in his first year starting with the New York Jets.  The problem is, Jackson just never got a chance to continue to develop as a starter after that one season.

Tavaris Jackson may never turn into an All-Pro quarterback, but I do believe he has his best days ahead of him.

3. Blaine Gabbert

2 of 4

While Blaine Gabbert is not technically the starting quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars yet, it is only a matter of time.  Considering the fact that the Jaguars have just waived incumbent starter David Garrard, it appears as though Jacksonville will be ushering in the Blaine Gabbert era sooner than originally anticipated.

From what I saw of Gabbert in the preseason, I have no reason to believe that he would hurt the Jags at all by starting.  I do not expect him to take the league by storm as a rookie, but I could see him having a season that would stack up favorably as a poor man's version of Sam Bradford's rookie year.

The biggest thing holding Blaine Gabbert back could very well be that the Jacksonville Jaguars are just not a very good football team overall.

2. Donovan McNabb

3 of 4

I am not sure why, but I just refuse to believe that Donovan McNabb is nearly as bad as Mike Shanahan tried to convince me he was last year.

Perhaps McNabb and the Redskins were just a bad match and the relationship was doomed from the start.  I believe this was the case and I think McNabb has more than a little bit left in the tank.

The move to the Minnesota Vikings should help Donovan McNabb turn back the close because every time he turns around, he will see Adrian Peterson there to help carry the load.

If you put McNabb's numbers in perspective, his only statistical categories that were significantly off from his career averages were touchdowns and interceptions.  Both of those areas can be greatly affected by the talent of a quarterback's wide receivers.

Because of this, I believe McNabb will have a bounce-back season.

1. Kevin Kolb

4 of 4

Kevin Kolb carries an enormous advantage in these rankings because he is throwing to Larry Fitzgerald.  I feel pretty confident in just about anyone's ability to get Fitzgerald the ball.  The wide receiver from Pittsburgh is just that good.

With that being said, I also believe Kolb will be successful because he has had a long time to learn as the backup to a couple great quarterbacks and because, after all this time, I think Kolb will use his 2011 season to send a message that he should have been starting games a long time ago.

While Kolb does not have the most starting experience, but he has spent a lot of time perfecting the mental part of the game in the last few seasons.

Besides, he is throwing to Larry Fitzgerald; that's more than enough reason.
