NFL Free Agent Rumors: Which 3 Teams Should Be Most Interested in David Garrard?
David Garrard is only the first of these many surprising "cold" cuts expected to come.
From a financial standpoint, the Jaguars were not in the wrong. Had they not cut the quarterback, they would have owed him somewhere in the neighborhood of $9 million, according to ESPN's John Clayton.
As a team they now stand about $33 million under the salary cap with a franchise quarterback already on the roster. Blaine Gabbert, the No. 10 pick in this year's draft, isn't ready to start though.

But this isn't about the Jaguars decision to basically fire Jack Del Rio before the season even starts. No, this is about the potential landing spots for Garrard.
According to Garrard's agent, three teams have already been in contact. Who those three teams are, we do not know, but we can certainly speculate. There is no shortage of quarterback-needy teams in the league right now, and here are the three that should be most interested in the 33-year old signal caller; whether as a backup or a starter.
San Francisco 49ers
Coach Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers actually have a roster that can win right now. Well, win in the NFC West that is. The only problem is that quarterback happens to be their biggest weakness.
Second-round rookie Colin Kaepernick is not ready to take the reigns, and the Niners are left with former No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith. He's flashed here and there, but consistency is a major issue and he is one of those quarterbacks that can lose his team games.
Garrard would at least be an upgrade in terms of consistency. He's a 33-year old veteran that has started every game (when healthy) since 2006. He's never thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in a season and he's accustomed to playing with a dominant running back behind him.
If the 49ers want to make a legitimate run at their division this year Garrard may actually be their best bet.
Indianapolis Colts
The Peyton Manning injury situation is very serious and Kerry Collins is not good enough at his age to help this team win. He could help them to avoid losing, but he won't help them win.
David Garrard certainly isn't elite by any means, but he's better suited to handle playing quarterback for the Colts than Collins at this point.
He's not a danger throwing the football the way Collins is and he also can make something happen when plays break down. The Colts feature two rookie offensive lineman on the left side of their line this year; that doesn't bode well for statue that is Collins in the pocket.
Again, this is all contingent on Manning missing time, but if the Colts have any doubts about his health Garrard may be the best option.
Miami Dolphins
Staying in Florida wouldn't be such a bad thing for the veteran. Coach Tony Sparano is a sitting duck tied to Chad Henne's success at quarterback, but if things go south early, Garrard would be a more proven option than Matt Moore.
The Dolphins actually won six games on the road a season ago behind a relatively strong defensive performance and run game.
However, they were miserable at home and couldn't score points for the life of them.
This year the offensive line is possibly even worse and they have two new running backs, Reggie Bush and rookie Daniel Thomas. Garrard, at least, has the ability to escape trouble and make something happen should the pocket collapse.
The Dolphins have a hard road to the postseason, but Garrard's experience would serve them better than Henne's inconsistency.
