Fantasy Football Sleepers: 3 Speedy Flex Receivers to Start in Week 1

Eric BallSep 7, 2011

The flex position on your fantasy team is the make-or-break roster spot.

It’s the last player you feel comfortable starting and you never really know what to expect.

Looking through the matchups of Week 1, a few receivers stick out as potential 100-yard targets that are teetering in the minds of most fantasy players.

Here’s why you should start these three players in the flex.

1. Kenny Britt, Tennessee Titans

The Titans oft-troubled receiver skated out of a suspension and enters the season as the Titans' No.1 receiver.

With the implosion of their Week 1 opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars, expect the Titans to put up big points as they dominate the time-of-possession battle.

That means plenty of opportunities for Britt.

New QB Matt Hassselbeck may not be completely on the same page with Britt, but when you get 10 balls thrown your way, the production will be there.

He’s extremely quick, is a big target at 6'3'', 215 pounds and will be using his incredible leaping ability to out-jump defenders in the red zone.

2. Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Not to be confused with the Mike Williams in Seattle, here is another guy that will be the No. 1 target for his team.

The 6'2'', 215-pound receiver plays a Lions team that has big question marks surrounding their secondary. Expect the breakaway speed of Williams to give him at least one reception of over 20 yards.

He recently guaranteed a playoff appearance for the Bucs, so obviously confidence is not lacking with this second-year pro.

With QB Josh Freeman looking in his direction early and often, 100 yards and a TD is not only possible, but also likely.

3. Mario Manningham, New York Giants

Manningham is the No. 2 target in a Giants offense that loves to chuck the ball deep.

The Redskins have a Pro Bowler in DeAngelo Hall to keep Hakeem Nicks in check, so Manningham becomes the guy for QB Eli Manning.

With his production increasing in each of his three seasons in the league, this will be the breakout game for Manningham.
