Fantasy Football Week 1: 5 Stars That Should Sit in Week 1

Richard LangfordSep 7, 2011

You want to win your opening week in fantasy football don't you? Well, if you do, there are five stars you should seriously consider sitting.

For different reasons, the following five guys are not going to produce near expectations in Week 1. So, if you have an a halfway decent option as a backup, you should use them instead of these five.

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Dwayne Bowe is not going to get many targets in Week 1.

Matt Cassel may or may not play for the Chiefs due to a rib injury. Tyler Palko is not a QB you want to count on when it comes to getting your receiver the ball. Even if Cassel does play, don't look for Bowe to get much action.

The Chiefs are going to run early and often on the Bills. It is their bread and butter, and they figure to do some serious buttering against a very questionable run defense for the Bills.

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts

There is very little chance that Peyton Manning plays in this game and Kerry Collins has only been in the system for two weeks.

Wayne is going against the Texans' weak passing defense, but you can be sure Wayne will be the first weapon they try to take away from the Colts.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

I'm not sure Tony Romo qualifies as a fantasy star, although he was rated fairly highly on most draft charts.

Romo could very well be in line for a big season. That big season isn't likely to get off to a high-flying start against the Jets, though.

Passing yards will be hard to come by for Romo, and touchdowns will be even harder.

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

Michael Turner is a consistent fantasy producer.

He is set to get off to a slow start in 2011, though.

He is set to take on the Bears' stiff rushing defense at Soldier Field. I expect the Falcons to test the Bears' passing defense with much more regularity than they take to the ground.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

It is hard to ever sit Drew Brees, but if you are going to, this is the game.

The Packers feature an extraordinary pass defense. The Packers defense is also going to be rooted on by a loud crowd that is still delirious from the Super Bowl victory.

The Packers defense is going to be in lock-down mode for this contest, and Drew Brees' numbers will be the victim.
