WWE Smackdown: 10 Reasons Why Randy Orton vs. Christian Was a Great Feud

David LevinSep 7, 2011

Now that the Smackdown brand has moved past the Randy Orton/Christian feud and is looking towards a possible run by Mark Henry as World Champion, we can look back and see the angle for what it was.

What's more, there are many things fans can be happy about when they look back at what these two men did on Smackdown.

Until the CM Punk angle, these two men were truly carrying part of the company and doing it well.

Here is a look at 10 reasons why the feud was so good for the IWC, the WWE and the fans in the arenas.

It Gave Us a Chance to Love a Great Feud

1 of 10

The WWE has a habit of moving from angle to angle at such a fast rate.

This was old school.

Like Rock/Austin or Hart/Michaels, this feud was built up, shown off and brought to an end in classic style.

It Gave Us a Chance to See Edge at SummerSlam

2 of 10

Although he did not wrestle, Edge's cameo at the pay-per-view was a classic.

You knew that at some point the Rated-R Superstar would show up.

However, many of us did not know he would speak his mind about his best friend.

It Gave Us a Chance to Hate Teddy Long Even More

He helped set this angle up.

He booked the match between Christian and Orton only days after Christian claimed his first title.

It was a classic case of being done wrong and it allowed us to see the transformation of Christian into a heel that fans could like as well as hate.

It Led to Both Men Appearing on Raw

4 of 10

Exposure on both brands can only be a good thing.

We have seen both performers in matches on Raw and in tag team matches against each other with the likes of John Cena and The Miz.

It Helped Randy Orton Evolve More

5 of 10

Orton is always seen as the robotic wrestler who has four or five moves and that's it.

He became a more active wrestler, a more diabolical wrestler and he improved his mic skills.

Christian has always been the better of the two in these categories.

Both Men Pushed Each Other

6 of 10

Unlike other feuds in the past where wrestlers seemed to be uninterested in working an angle, these two made each other better.

There is no other way to explain that.

It Led to Some Great Matches by Other Wrestlers

7 of 10

Mark Henry became an instant contender.

Sheamus laid claim to the World Title.

Wade Barrett became more involved.

Kane was part of the equation.

For a month, some of the "biggest" men in the business wrestled each other.

It was old-school wrestling at its best.

It Led to the Face Change of Sheamus

8 of 10

This and the injuries to Kane and Big Show.

Sheamus lost at SummerSlam to Mark Henry, but injuries and scheduling have made this a great feud as well.

Yes, in a way, Orton/Christian helped.

It Opened the Door for a Return Engagement

9 of 10

If it's that good, then why not bring it back?

Rock/Austin worked over and over again because of chemistry. Fans ate it up. This one, although not the same caliber, has the same appeal.

It Led to More People Wanting to Watch Smackdown

10 of 10

Better matches.

Better talent.

Better ratings.

Vince has to be smiling.
