Fantasy Football Sleepers: 5 Underrated RBs Guaranteed to Score Big

Andrew KulhaSep 3, 2011

Finding a sleeper in fantasy football is absolutely integral for success, and if you don't know what you're doing you could get left out in the cold.

The best fantasy owners know which players are worth taking chances on, and which ones are likely going to be busts.

There's even more pressure when drafting a sleeper running back.

They can be extremely hit or miss, so you really have to know what you are doing.

Check out these five underrated backs that are guaranteed to score big.

Tim Hightower: Washington Redskins

1 of 5

At first I was perplexed with the 'Skins trade for Hightower.

They already had a log jam in the backfield, so I wasn't sure how he would get any playing time.

He's taken advantage of the time he's gotten due to Ryan Torain's injury, though, and he's looked great so far.

He's an explosive runner, but will probably make his greatest impact out of the backfield catching passes.

Either way, he'll get you some much needed sleeper points.

C.J. Spiller: Buffalo Bills

2 of 5

I've always liked C.J. Spiller, so even though he had a pretty rough rookie year I think he will be okay.

Spiller is due for a bounce-back year, and he has all the makings of a home run hitter.

He's quick and can do damage on the ground and in the air.

If he gets a step on the defense, look out. He's scoring, and you're getting points.

Mike Tolbert: San Diego Chargers

3 of 5

The Chargers are apparently moving to more of a two back system, which means that Tolbert is going to see the ball a lot more than what people originally thought.

He can pound the rock, and I expect that the Chargers are going to use him in lots of goal line scoring situations.

Expect a bunch of touchdowns from this guy.

James Starks: Green Bay Packers

4 of 5

I've said it from the beginning of this year, and I'll continue to say so.

James Starks deserves to be the starter for the Packers, and if he isn't by the first snap of the season, he will eventually take it over.

He's a far better running back than Ryan Grant, and the Packers offense moves much better when he is running the ball.

He's a downhill back that accumulates points, and Rodgers likes going to him out of the backfield.

Mark Ingram: New Orleans Saints

5 of 5

There's no doubt in my mind that Ingram is going to be a beast in the NFL for a very long time.

If you're in a keeper or dynasty league I suggest you draft him immediately.

Even in the short term I expect that the Saints will feel free to give him the ball quite a lot, and we'll see what he can do.
