Top 5 Reasons Why C.C. Sabathia Is Not Worth 140 Million Dollars.

Elliot SchallNov 18, 2008

5. After C.C. won the Cy Young award in 2007, he came back for the 2008 season with Cleveland and looked terrible at the start. Yeah, he turned it around and pitched well for Milwaukee, but I think part of that reason is because the NL was not used to seeing C.C. All this publicity and media attention for Sabathia could take a toll on him.

4. The pressure for pitching in the Bronx is unbelievable. If you pitch for the New York Yankees, you are expected to make a Hall of Fame performance for each start, and if you don't look good you'll hear it from the New York media, as well as the fans for a long, long time.

3. Baseball is unfair. I love the game of baseball, but the way these organizations spend money and how some ball clubs don't have the money to afford big name players really sucks. Teams sometimes have to rely on their farm systems, which may not work out until a few years down the road. The bottom line is that Major League Baseball needs a salary cap. The Yankees are able to afford C.C. Sabathia and a guy like Manny Ramirez or C.C. and another top starting pitcher like A.J Burnett.

2. C.C. Sabathia may be the worst postseason pitcher. He is a terrible postseason pitcher and he showed it two years in a row. He was awful for Cleveland in 2007 and was not good for the Brewers this past postseason. I don't know if it's nerves or what but if he expects to play for the Yankees, who are playoff contenders every year, well he better get a work on that post season pitching, because he is just terrible. When a guy wins a Cy Young and is a big hard throwing lefty like himself and wins ball games like he does in the regular season, well then you expect him to be your ace in the post season. Sorry Steinbrenner but he may not be to your liking.

1. I'm gonna make this point short and sweet. No athlete let alone human being is worth that kind of money. The amount of money, $140 million dollars is ridiculous. You know what I could do with that kind of money.? Well actually I don't even know, I don't think anybody knows what to do with that kind of money.
