WWE News: The Rock Comments on WrestleMania XXVIII and "Never Leaving Again"

Al ConstableJun 5, 2018

A couple of days ago, the Great One and nine-time World champion, The Rock, answered a question from a fan about his match with John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII. His response came in multiple tweets.

"

"A few years ago when Cena - inexplicably - started talking trash publicly, I knew then I could turn this into a - massive main event. One that could elevate the WWE to unprecedented heights. The timing had to be right though.

WrestleMania 27: for me and the fans - the time was right. The build to WrestleMania 28 will be like nothing the world - has ever seen before. The match itself will be historic. I didn't come back to the WWE to become champion again.

I came back for these reasons: entertain the fans like no-one else can. Elevate the WWE to new heights never seen before. Challenge and mentor some of the younger talent. Give the millions what they want which is to kick John Cena's f'n ass."

Another fan called out Rock on the fact he stated he would "never leave again." The People's Champ said:

"

"Not at all. I never meant to mislead or confuse the fans and I apologize if I did. The overall goal was to make - huge impact and elevate WrestleMania. Shoot my movie commitments, then return again as soon as I wrap the film - and help elevate the WWE and the overall business of professional wrestling. Survivor Series, Mania etc."

"

Once again, I feel The Rock may have mislead his fans, although it may have been unintentional. When he said he would never leave, I accepted that he wasn't going to be a regular in WWE. The man we see in 2011 is different from the one who, 10 years ago, was WWE champion.

However, considering he is involved in a major angle with the company's top face, I would have expected him to have been active beyond two episodes of Raw after WrestleMania XXVII. Here, he seems to give the impression that he has only disappeared since then because he has filming commitments.

The problem is, he makes it sound as if he will be sticking around after next year's big pay-per-view. In reality, he won't. At most, he will go on a "Legends" contract and make sporadic appearances. He is due to film a new Fast and Furious film after his current project, G.I. Joe 2 wraps. Chances are, that won't be filmed between now and November, when he is meant to return at Survivor Series.

Once again, I reiterate that I accept he is not a full-time performer, but he doesn't help his standing with the fans when he makes comments that seem to suggest a more permanent return.
