Miami Dolphins Sign Safety Gerald Alexander, Yet Fail to Pursue O-Line Help
According to Sun-Sentinel Miami Dolphins beat reporter Omar Kelly, the Dolphins have signed former Panthers, Jags and Lions safety Gerald Alexander.
Alexander reportedly publicized the signings on twitter, stating: “Miami Dolphins!!!!!! LET’S GO!”
He then posted a picture of a sign at the Miami Dolphins locker room.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Alexander was the Lions' second-round pick in 2007 out of Boise State. Out of the 41 games he's played, Alexander has started 30 of them. However last season while splitting time with Jacksonville and Carolina, Alexander only played in five games.
While Alexander adds more depth in the secondary, it is also very telling of other players on the Dolphins and their place, such as Tyrone Culver, who will make a base salary of $1.25 million this season.
Alexander is primarily a strong safety, the position being held by Yeremiah Bell. However he could play free safety if needed.
Now a good question many Dolphins fans have is, why sign another safety if secondary isn't the problem and the problem is on the right side of the offensive line?
This isn't to criticize the Alexander signing. He can contribute to this team on special teams and on defense if needed, but the team seems to be resting on the laurels of their offensive line, despite the putrid performance on Saturday night.
Based off the performances of Chad Henne, Brandon Marshall, and the whole Dolphins defense, the O-line will be the difference between the Dolphins going 11-5 and 7-9, and something must be done about it.
So it would only make sense that Miami would sign a fifth safety.
