Usain Bolt: Disqualification Only Way to Keep Bolt from Winning

The only way to keep Usain Bolt from dominating the 2011 World Championships would be to disqualify him, and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday.

After Bolt destroyed in his preliminary bracket, the only thing standing in the way was the finals of the world championships, and the competition wasn’t nearly fierce enough to pose a real threat to Bolt.

As the runners gathered at the starting line, Bolt walked very nonchalantly to the blocks in his normal confident manner.

If there are two things that Bolt doesn’t lack, they're speed and confidence.

With the runners in the blocks, they were all ready to get a great start, but the unthinkable happened.

In a sport where Bolt is by far the biggest name, the Tiger Woods of running jumped the starting gun and disqualified.

The sport used to allow one false start for runners, but since the governing body of the IAAF changed the rule for the start of the 2010 season, racers face disqualification after one false start.

With Bolt barred from the top race of the year, the sport of track and field can’t have their biggest star sidelined for any of the races, and if Bolt isn’t running, people aren’t watching.

Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake eventually won the race, but the fact that Bolt was not involved when he more than earned it will be the final straw that sends the rules committee back to the drawing board to change the DQ rules.

If the track and field commission was smart, they would revert to one false start per person without a DQ, that way, names like Bolt get a second chance and the sport will not have to deal with the backlash from the fans.

Bolt would have won another gold medal if they had allowed him to race, and this will no doubt bring the conspiracy theorists out in full force.
