UFC 134 Results: Edson Barboza and the 7 Best Lightweight Strikers in the UFC
Last night, Edson Barboza made a statement to the rest of the division as he defeated Ross Pearson by split decision.
Barboza and Pearson stood for all 15 minutes, and Barboza was able to show off some flashy kicks and very technical muay thai striking.
The lightweight division is full of strong strikers, so here are seven of the top lightweight strikers in the UFC today.
Edson Barboza
1 of 8Start off the list with the man himself, Edson Barboza (9-0).
Barboza stood with Pearson for 15 minutes and posted the split decision victory.
In addition to his MMA record, he has a pro kickboxing record of 25-3 with 22 knockouts.
Notable Finishes: No significant names, but two TKO's to leg kicks
Melvin Guillard
2 of 8Melvin Guillard (29-8-2 [1 NC]) is the "dark-horse" contender in the lightweight division.
In addition to that, he is probably the most devastating striker in the division.
Guillard has 19 victories via (T)KO and has some good defensive wrestling to complement that.
Notable Finishes: Shane Roller, Evan Dunham, Dennis Siver, Marcus Davis
Dennis Siver
3 of 8Dennis Siver (19-7) is a former German National Kickboxing Champion.
He may only have five victories by (T)KO in his MMA career, but that doesn't mean he isn't one of the best strikers around.
He is currently on a four fight winning streak and will take on Sam Stout at UFC 137.
Notable Finishes: Paul Kelly, Nate Mohr
Sam Stout
4 of 8Sam Stout (17-6-1) is the best UFC lightweight that nobody's talking about.
Stout is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC, as evidenced by his three straight Fight of the Night performances.
In his career, he has finished nine opponents via (T)KO.
Notable Finishes: Yves Edwards, Yves Jabouin
Jeremy Stephens
5 of 8Jeremy Stephens (20-6) is another great lightweight that you probably don't know.
Stephens has (T)KO'd his opponent in 14 of his 20 victories, and in his next fight, he will take on the former WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis.
Notable Finishes: Marcus Davis, Rafael dos Anjos, Cole Miller
Anthony Pettis
6 of 8Ah speak of the devil!
Anthony Pettis (11-2) is one of the brightest young stars in the sport, and along with having some of the flashiest kicks in the game, he also has one of the most dangerous guards.
Pettis is known to most as the guy who landed the "Showtime kick" on Ben Henderson in their fight for the WEC Lightweight Title at WEC 53.
Pettis has a lot more than just that in his arsenal.
Notable Finishes: Danny Castillo, Gabe Wallbridge
Anthony Njokuani
7 of 8The final man on this list has already fallen to the first man on the list.
Anthony Njokuani (14-5 [1 NC]) has been fighting for eight years, so he's been around for quite some time.
At UFC 128, Njokuani took on Edson Barboza and was out-struck en route to a unanimous decision loss. After that, he came back and won a unanimous decision over Andre Winner.
Njokuani has won eight fights via (T)KO.
Notable Finishes: Edward Faaloloto, Chris Horodecki, Bart Palaszewski
