UFC 134 Results: Ranking the Top 10 Heavyweights in the UFC

Sean SmithJun 7, 2018

After battling injuries for more than one year, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira returned to the Octagon for UFC 134 in his home country of Brazil. Despite his decorated past, Nogueira was considered an underdog against the fast-rising Brendan Schaub.

After taking some big shots from Schaub, Nogueira fired right back and rocked Schaub with a straight right hand. A few more punches sealed the deal for Nogueira and sent the Brazilian crowd into a frenzy.

After seeing his four-fight winning streak come to an end, Schaub will have to rebuild his momentum in order to make another run at the title. That being said, Schaub remains one of the brightest young fighters in the UFC's heavyweight division.

With this pivotal heavyweight bout now in the books, let's take a took at where both fighters stand in the heavyweight division.

10. Travis Browne

1 of 10

MMA Record: 11-0-1

Last Five: 4-0-1

Streak: W1

After scoring a highlight reel knockout against Stefan Struve, Travis Browne has himself in a position to become a serious contender in the heavyweight division.

A win over Rob Broughton at UFC 135 won't allow Browne to take that step, but it will further cement him as one of the mainstays in the division.

After their first meeting ended in a draw, Browne would probably like another shot at UFC veteran Cheick Kongo somewhere down the line.

9. Cheick Kongo

2 of 10

MMA Record: 16-6-2

Last Five: 2-2-1

Streak: W1

In his last fight, Cheick Kongo looked to be on the verge a getting knocked out by Pat Barry. However, Kongo somehow mustered the strength to plant his feet and land two big shots that rendered Barry unconscious.

Now, Kongo will turn his sights to Barry's friend and rising heavyweight, Matt Mitrione. A dominant performance against Mitrione could move the Frenchman back into a position to take a fight with one of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.

8. Brendan Schaub

3 of 10

MMA Record:8-2

Last Five: 4-1

Streak: L1

After being knocked out by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Brendan Schaub has lost a lot of the momentum he gained with the four-fight winning streak he carried into that fight.

Nonetheless, the 28-year-old Schaub is still growing as a fighter and should be a contender in the shallow heavyweight division for awhile.

7. Roy Nelson

4 of 10

MMA Record:15-6

Last Five: 2-3

Streak: L2

Roy Nelson has faced some stiff competition in his last two fights, as he dropped unanimous decisions to Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir.

Nelson will have the chance to bounce back at against another big name at UFC 137, though, as he is set to take on MMA legend Mirko Filipovic.

6. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

5 of 10

MMA Record: 33-6-1, 1 NC

Last Five: 3-2

Streak: W1

After being knocked out by Cain Velasquez, Antonio Rodrigo Noeguiera was inactive for more than a year due to multiple injuries.

Although many wondered if Nogueira had any fight left in him, the Brazilian pulled off a huge win in his return by knocking out Brendan Schaub.

5. Frank Mir

6 of 10

MMA Record: 15-5

Last Five: 3-2

Streak: W2

Since a knockout loss to Shane Carwin, Frank Mir has picked up two impressive wins over Mirko Filipovic and Roy Nelson.

Although it has been three months since his win over Nelson, Mir's next fight has not yet been scheduled. He could be holding out for a rematch with Nogueira, Carwin or Brock Lesnar.

4. Shane Carwin

7 of 10

MMA Record: 12-2

Last Five: 3-2

Streak: L2

Only slightly more than a year ago, Shane Carwin came extremely close to finishing UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in the first round. However, Carwin ended up getting submitted by Lesnar in the second round.

Now, Carwin is a loser of two straight fights after being dominated by Junior dos Santos. Carwin isn't about to call it quits after losing to two of the best heavyweights in the world, though. He will return in 2012.

3. Brock Lesnar

8 of 10

MMA Record: 5-2

Last Five: 4-1

Streak: L1

After being dominated for the first time in his career in a loss to Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar was set to fight Junior dos Santos for a chance to earn a rematch with Velasquez.

However, a second bout with diverticulitis forced Lesnar from the bout. Lesnar will return, though. UFC president Dana White expects the former champion to be inside the Octagon by the opening of 2012.

2. Junior dos Santos

9 of 10

MMA Record: 13-1

Last Five: 5-0

Streak: W8

After destroying his first seven opponents in the UFC, Junior dos Santos is finally lined up for a title shot. That opportunity will come against UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 139.

1. Cain Velasquez

10 of 10

MMA Record:9-0

Last Five: 5-0

Streak: W9

After dominating Brock Lesnar to become the UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez was forced to go under the knife to repair a torn rotator cuff.

In what will be more than one year since his fight with Lesnar, Velasquez is finally scheduled to defend his belt for the first time against Junior dos Santos in November 2011.
