UFC 134 Results: 3 Fights to Get Shogun Rua Back in Line for the Title
Shogun is back!
On Saturday night, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua showed the rest of the light-heavyweight division that he is still a force to be reckoned with, as he knocked out Forrest Griffin in under two minutes of their fight.
Dana White said that Shogun is two fights away from another title shot, so it would be safe to assume that his next fight will be a No. 1 contender match.
It would seem there's only one viable option for him but, because a one-slide slideshow is lazy, I was able to come up with three different options for Shogun's No. 1 contender fight.
Should Something Happen...Rashad Evans
1 of 4Rashad Evans is the current No. 1 contender in the light-heavyweight division, and that is exactly how it should be.
Unfortunately, Rashad has been very unlucky when it comes to title shots, and there is always the chance that somehow he doesn't fight for the title next.
If that happens, then Rashad could fight Shogun for his No. 1 contender spot.
Loser of Jones vs. Rampage
2 of 4If for some reason the top choice fight for Shogun doesn't come to fruition, the loser of the upcoming light-heavyweight title fight would make a solid No. 1 contender fight.
Jon Jones is set to defend his title against Rampage Jackson at UFC 135, and the loser is most likely not going to fall that far out of the rankings.
Shogun has fought both of these men before, losing to Jones by TKO and defeating Rampage by TKO.
Lyoto Machida
3 of 4Lyoto Machida is the sensible choice for Shogun's next fight, which will most likely be a No. 1 contender fight.
Machida and Shogun have met twice before, and they are split at 1-1. Machida won the first fight by controversial decision, and Shogun won the second by first-round knockout.
A third fight between these two, with a title shot on the line, would be an all-out war—unless someone gets knocked out in the first round again, which would be totally possible.
Dana White said he wanted to get through the fights on Saturday before deciding who would headline the first card on Fox.
He also said that Anderson would not be involved with the card.
Does that mean that Shogun vs. Machida could headline UFC on Fox 1?
