UFC 134 Results: 3 Fights That Make Sense for Anderson Silva Now
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva got revenge in a big way by stopping Yushin Okami at UFC 134, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earlier tonight.
The main event put an exclamation point on the event, which was the UFC's first trip to Brazil since 1998.
Okami was the last man to defeat Silva, but "The Spider" got the more definitive finish and the one everyone has come to expect from him time and time again.
With the victory, Silva remains the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and extends his record to 31-4 with 18 knockouts.
His current UFC streaks consist of nine consecutive title defenses and 14 victories inside the Octagon. He has wins over Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin (twice), Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia, Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt.
These three opponents are really the only ones who can challenge Silva at this point and time.
No. 3: Jon Jones
1 of 3Current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones is the youngest champion in UFC history, and he exploded onto the MMA scene with little experience, but accomplished the biggest achievement in the sport by winning the title in three years since turning professional.
After defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua earlier this year, Jones won the championship and quickly became the man to beat in the 205-pound division.
If he defeats Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in his first title defense at UFC 135, a fight with Silva could be a very intriguing bout that could prove to be a major pay-per-view event between two of the more famous figures in the sport.
Silva, who has victories over Forrest Griffin and James Irvin at light heavyweight, has the size, skill and speed to challenge Jones, who is 13-1 in MMA with his only loss coming by disqualification.
Jones is also 12 years younger than the Brazilian so it will be a youth vs. experience type of fight between two of the very best fighters.
No. 2: Chael Sonnen
2 of 3The story of the first fight between Chael Sonnen and Silva is well documented.
Sonnen handled the 36-year-old for the better part of five rounds before getting caught in a triangle-choke late in the fight. He was forced to submit, but had already "won" the fight in his mind.
Sonnen continues to state he is the people's champion, but it's Silva who has the title around his waist.
When Sonnen challenges Brian Stann at UFC 136, he will need to make a statement to warrant a rematch, and it will have to come in the form of his fists and not his mouth. If he can do this, look for him to seek revenge not only for his training partner's loss, but his own.
This may go down as one of the most anticipated rematches in the history of MMA. Sonnen has had more than enough to say about the fighter and his country, and now it's time for him to back it up.
No. 1: Georges St-Pierre
3 of 3Although a superfight between pound-for-pound stars Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva may be the least likely to happen out of these three, it's the one everyone wants to see the most.
St-Pierre is the reigning UFC welterweight champion, and he has successfully defended his title six times with wins over Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Jake Shields, Thiago Alves and Matt Serra.
With the power of St-Pierre's wrestling versus the precise striking of Silva, this could be a fight that goes down as one of the best.
It would certainly be the most memorable one considering the level of talent and accomplishments both fighters possess.
The only thing holding it back from happening is St-Pierre's decision to not fight at middleweight unless he can grow into the division first.
