UFC 134 Fight Card: Which Fighter Has the Most to Gain?
UFC 134 is less than two hours away, and will take place in the beautiful Rio de Janeiro.
The main event will feature the rematch between Japan’s Yushin Okami and Brazil’s own, middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Although Okami is one of the most accomplished Japanese fighters of all time, he has yet to win a world title.
That could all change tonight if he can get past the pound-for-pound king of MMA.
That, of course, is easier said than done.
Since they last fought back in 2006, Silva has won 14 straight fights, including wins over Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin, Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin (twice), and Chael Sonnen.
In many of these fights, Silva defeated his opponents with ease. Even when Sonnen looked like he was about to defeat Silva, one small opening was all Silva needed to submit him.
Okami is one of Japan’s greatest fighters. But he will have to be the best in MMA if he can get past Silva.
One thing Okami has going for him is that he is tough to finish. Four of his five losses have come by decision.
If Okami can keep his defense up while continuing to show improved striking and wrestling of his own, he could score a huge upset against Silva. It will be no easy task. But nothing is impossible in MMA.
A convincing win for Okami will not only give him the UFC middleweight championship, but it will give him the much-needed respect he has been waiting for.
Okami would go down in history as being the man to end one of the greatest reigns in MMA history. More importantly, it could be the start of his own.
