DeAngelo Hall Highlight Video: Watch Redskins CB Slither His Way to End Zone
One of the big question marks surrounding the Washington Redskins entering the regular season was what kind of production would they get out of the secondary.
It was only one moment in one preseason game, but on DeAngelo Hall provided some hope that things will be better.
Early in the first quarter against the Ravens, Hall picked off Joe Flacco’s pass at his own 47-yard line. After he grabbed the ball, which was thrown right at him, he returned it 53 yards for the score.

But that description is not really doing it justice, because just inside the 20-yard line he cut inside but found the pressure to be too great, so he cut back outside, causing Flacco to nearly come out of his shoes trying to tackle him.
The Redskins felt confident enough about the players that they had in the secondary—Hall and Phillip Buchanon among others—to allow Carlos Rogers to leave via free agency. Last year the team struggled in pass coverage. They finished 31st against the pass, allowing nearly 262 yards per game through the air.
As impressive as Hall’s return was, the team did give up 34 points and over 300 yards passing. This team will have to create turnovers because they are not going to be able to stop teams from scoring on them.
It was a nice moment for Hall, and one that will get him on SportsCenter’s Top Plays, but if you look at the game as a whole, it was not very good for the Redskins defense.
The offense looked surprisingly good against a tough Ravens defense, but if you can’t stop anyone, it is going to be hard to win games.
Hall will have to play like a No. 1 cornerback, like he was supposed to be when he was taken with the eighth pick in the 2004 draft, but to this point in his career, he has never looked like that guy.
Perhaps this interception return will be something that he can build off of. Then again, it was probably just a play where Flacco misread the coverage and threw the ball right to Hall, who proceeded to make a great play to score a touchdown.
