Attention WWE Universe! 10 Reasons Why the PG Era Is Here to Stay

Iddy IgweJun 7, 2018
  • Overall experience – The PG era broadened the audience of wrestling fans, dipped its toes into movies and launched into the social networking world. Wrestling is once again relevant, and this was all achieved in the PG era.
  • Marketability – The wrestling niche in the attitude era is no more. A wider viewing range means that the WWE can target a variety of consumers in order to spread the word of the WWE. From action films to toys to food sponsor ships and even Facebook, WWE is finally global.
  • Unpredictability – The whole CM Punk angle is proof that the toned-down style of the PG era is beneficial in making wrestling exciting again. With the expectations of this kid-friendly era, no one could have seen this coming, providing a breath of fresh air within the shows and wrestling fans alike.

  • Experimentation – In order to capitalize on this new era, WWE had to develop new ways to excite the WWE universe. Although many of these ideas failed (anyone remember million dollar mania?), the WWE’s commitment to new gimmicks shows that they are trying to invest in the wrestling fan's imagination and provide a better wrestling experience.
  • Wrestling matches – Gone are the days when a match always took to the crowd or the back in order to entertain the fans. These days, the pure wrestling spectacle is confined to the ring and wrestling is the all the better for it. With faces and heels so clearly defined in this era, the wrestling can tell the story!
  • WWE Universe – The demographic has now expanded since the Attitude era. Attracting younger children in this “cradle to grave” technique should produce a loyal following that will last for many generations. Women have now got involved in the show. This is shown by the now common high-pitch screams, amidst boos, when Cena’s music blares out.
  • New Wrestlers – Examples including Alberto del Rio, Cody Rhodes and many more on the current roster shows how talent has evolved. These wrestlers’ promo skills may not be up to par with their counterparts in that celebrated era. However, they put on better quality matches and have allowed them an avenue to enter the pinnacle of sports entertainment.
  • Politics – PG era was meant to help Linda McMahon’s political aspirations. Pure and simple. How can a politician win and be connected to such adult entertainment. The advantage to be gained from having Linda in the heart of politics is priceless. She can help influence decisions that will further help enhance the company.
  • Feuds – Since the inception of PG, feuds have become far more varied. No longer is it two wrestlers swearing at one another incessantly. Storylines have become more clever, and with the inclusion of social media, have become more realistic. This has allowed the demographic of viewers to be widened as well.
  • The Golden Era – Remember Hulk Hogan? A babyface who defied all odds, including moments such as slamming Andre the Giant. Very reminiscent of a present wrestler....Events such as Royal Rumble and Survivor Series were created back then. These PPVs have generated vast revenues and without such revenue, this argument wouldn’t even be thought of, let alone debated.

So with the PG Era in full swing and the WWE finally getting its act together, why would you want to see it go? There's more to come and personally, I can't wait!
