Minnesota Twins: Michael Cuddyer Injured, Kevin Slowey Unimpressive

Collin KottkeJun 7, 2018

The Minnesota Twins have had a dreadful year. A team that usually has multiple All-Stars only had one this year—and on Wednesday that player went down. Twins All-Star Michael Cuddyer suffered a wrist injury in the first inning against the Orioles after being hit by a Jeremy Guthrie pitch.

Cuddyer was taken out of the game. The X-Rays were negative, but per MLB.com an MRI is scheduled for Thursday. Backup outfield Rene Tosoni replaced Cuddyer in Wednesday’s game.

Cuddyer has been one of the few bright spots for a horrible Twins team. He made his first All-Star Game this season and has hit 18 home runs and 61 RBI in a contract year.

Cuddyer is very versatile and would be very valuable to any team. He has seen consistent playing time at right field, first base and second base this year. Cuddyer even pitched in a blowout game against the Texas Rangers in Arlington.

Even if Cuddyer would have stayed in the game, it probably wouldn't have mattered; the Twins lost to the Baltimore Orioles once again. The Twins lost 6-1, losing their third game in a row to the O’s—who happen to be, statistically, the worst team in the American League.

Kevin Slowey toed the rubber for the Twins and was unimpressive once again. Slowey only lasted 4.2 innings and gave up five runs. Slowey has given up three home runs in only 10.1 innings out of the rotation. This was unofficially Slowey’s audition for next season’s roster, which is obviously not looking too good for him.
