Vote Phillies for 2008 This Year in Baseball Awards

Kevin McGuireNov 13, 2008
Really the only competition the Phillies' ace closer Brad Lidge has is Francisco Rodriguez (I hear you Yankee fans), but Lidge asserted himself as the best closer in baseball this year. Despite being disrespected for the Cy Young and the Pepsi Clutch Performer Award, Lidge should win this one, the 2008 This Year in Baseball Award for Closer.

You can make it happen, by voting here.

Also up for nomination is Ryan Howard for best hitter, Charlie Manuel for manager, and Pat Gillick for best executive. Manuel was the runner up for National League Manager of the Year behind Lou Piniella. Manuel should be in contention for this one, as should Gillick for executive.

Three Phillies moments are nominated in the best post season moments category, making four appearances. Matt Stairs' home run against the Dodgers, Carlos Ruiz's walkoff dribbler in the World Series, Chase Utley's pump fake throw out at home, and Lidge's classic save in game five of the World Series are all up for nomination. I would vote for Lidge's save but I am compelled to vote for the Stairs homerun. That was the moment, to me, that told me this Phillies team was going to win it all.
