UFC 134 Results: Full Fight Card

Sean SmithJun 7, 2018

Since the sport's beginning, Brazil has produced some of the most successful mixed martial artists in the world. However, the world's largest MMA promotion hasn't made its way to the South American country since October 1998.

This Saturday, the UFC will return to Brazil for the first time in nearly 13 years for UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro. The main card will feature a number of Brazilian stars, such as Shogun Rua, who will rematch Forrest Griffin, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira collides with Brendan Schaub.

The main event will showcase a middleweight title fight between the greatest Brazilian fighter of all time, Anderson Silva, and Yushin Okami.

This article will provide previews for every bout on the fight card. After each fight, check back here for live results and an analysis of every matchup.

Live results will begin at approximately 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 27th.

Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami

1 of 12

Anderson Silva defeats Yushin Okami by technical knockout (strikes) at 2:04 of the second round.

In the first round, Okami used the clinch to control Silva along the fence. Silva ended the round with a head kick, but it was still a tough frame to score.

Silva came off of the stool more aggressive in the second round. Silva dropped his hands and knocks Okami down with a jab. Another right hand drops Okami and the greatest fighter in MMA history completes his ninth consecutive title defense with a technical knockout.

A rematch with Chael Sonnen looms, as Sonnen is scheduled to compete in a title shot eliminator with Brian Stann.

Mauricio Rua vs. Forrest Griffin

2 of 12

Mauricio Rua defeats Forrest Griffin by knockout (hammerfists) at 1:53 of the first round.

After losing his belt to Jon Jones in his previous appearance, Rua returned in spectacular fashion by completely dominated Griffin in a first-round finish.

Early in the fight, Rua blasted Griffin with an uppercut. Shortly after, Griffin was rocked by another right hand from the Brazilian. In typical Griffin fashion, the American ate several unanswered punches before finally being unable to defend himself.

The win for Rua avenged a loss to Griffin from his UFC debut in September 2007. Griffin's two-fight winning streak and hopes of getting another shot at the UFC light heavyweight belt came to a crashing halt.

Ross Pearson vs. Edson Barboza

3 of 12

Barboza defeats Pearson by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Another fight in the books for Barboza and another excellent technical display of striking from the Brazilian.

Pearson came out looking to close the distance and keep Barboza on his heels to prevent the Brazilian from loading up for leg kicks. However, Barboza landed the most significant shot of the first round with a spinning back kick.

In the second round, Barboza began finding a home for his right hand. Early in the round, a right hook dropped Pearson. Also, several more spinning back kicks landed to the body of Pearson throughout the rest of the fight.

In a closely contested bout, the damage Barboza did to the right side of Pearson's face may have made the difference on the scorecards.

With the win, Barboza has now won each of his first nine fights as a professional. A move to compete with a lightweight contender may now be in the cards for Barboza.

Brendan Schaub vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

4 of 12

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeats Brendan Schaub by knockout (punches) at of the first round.

After more than a year away from the sport due to injuries, many speculated whether or not Nogeuira had anything left in the tank. Nogueira silenced all of those doubters in front of his home country.

After getting hit with some big uppercuts from Schaub, Noguiera rocked his opponent with a straight right. The MMA legend smelled blood and went for the finish immediately.

Schaub crumpled to the canvas and Nogueira was awarded the victory. The knockout ended Schaub's impressive four-fight winning streak.

Luiz Cane vs. Stanislav Nedkov

5 of 12

Stanislav Nedkov defeats Luiz Cane by technical knockout at (4:13) of the first round.

After being picked apart in the early parts of the first round, Nedkov rocked Cane with a right hand that landed behind the ear of the Brazilian light heavyweight.

Cane tried to recover, but Nedkov pounced and finished the fight with ground and pound. The win allowed Nedkov to stretch his undefeated record to 12-0.

Cane has now lost three of his last four and needs to get things going if he wants to keep his spot on the UFC roster. This was an especially disappointing defeat for Cane, as he was fighting in front of his home country and could not defend the only offense Nedkov had showed in the first four minutes of the fight, an overhand right.

Thiago Tavares vs. Spencer Fisher

6 of 12

Thiago Tavares defeats Spencer Fisher by technical knockout (punches) at 2:51 of the second round.

Tavares bounced back from a knockout loss to Shane Roller with a dominant victory over Spencer Fisher at UFC 134. Tavares, while fighting in front of his countrymen in Rio, took Fisher to the ground and pounded out a technical knockout in the second round.

The loss was Fisher's second in a row, which could potentially lead to his release from the organization. To further that disappointing stat for the UFC veteran, Fisher has lost four of his last five bouts.

Tavares keeps Brazilian fighters undefeated for the night when not competing against fellow compatriots.

Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller

7 of 12

Rousimar Palhares defeats Dan Miller by unanimous decision (29-27, 30-27, 30-25).

It seems as though every fight Palhares competes in is linked to some sort of controversy. Earlier in his UFC career, Palhares accused Marquardt of greasing his legs mid-fight and was suspended for holding a heel hook on Tomasz Drwal well after a stoppage.

After a dominant start to the fight, Palhares looked to have Miller finished with a head kick. However, Palhares walked away before referee Herb Dean called a stop the fight.

On the restart, Miller dropped Palhares. Palhares recovered quickly, though, and put Miller on his back before the end of the round.

In the second frame, Palhares showed no effects from being rocked in the first round. Palhares took Miller to the ground and busted his opponent's face open with heavy ground and pound.

Palhares and Miller ran out of juice by the start of the third round, but both fighters continued to press forward. The round was much closer than the the dominant second round, but it was far from enough for Miller to come close to beating Palhares on the scorecards.

Miller has now lost five of his last seven fights. However, his job will likely be safe after all of the fights he has taken with middleweight contenders. Palhares has won five of his last six and should earn a fight with a top 10 middleweight with this win.

Paulo Thiago vs. David Mitchell

8 of 12

Thiago defeats Mitchell by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Fighting in his home country of Brazil, Thiago was simply on a different level than Mitchell throughout this fight. Not only did Thiago's black belts in judo and jiu-jitsu play a factor in this fight, but the Brazilian even out-struck Mitchell.

In the third round, Thiago poured it on and nearly finished the fight with a rear naked choke. However, Mitchell fought off the submission attempt until the buzzer and the Brazilian walked away with a lopsided decision win.

After losing two straight fights, this win may have salvaged Thiago's UFC career. For Mitchell, on the other hand, a second loss in as many fights with the organization may spell the end.

Raphael Assuncao vs. Johnny Eduardo

9 of 12

Assuncao defeats Eduardo by unanimous unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

A close first round saw Eduardo land some crisp strikes on his feet. However, Assuncao secured a takedown and landed some big elbows from full guard.

Eduardo continued to be effective on his feet in the second round, but a late takedown made the difference for Assuncao once again. As the round came to a close, Assuncao had taken Eduardo's back and was looking to secure a rear naked choke.

A smart third round was all Assuncao needed to secure the unanimous decision victory in his home country of Brazil. After losing to Erik Koch at featherweight in his UFC debut, Assuncao bounced back with this big bantamweight victory.

At 33 years old, Eduardo might never be a contender after this loss in his UFC debut. However, he has plenty of room to improve his grappling defense.

Erick Silva vs. Luis Ramos

10 of 12

Erick Silva defeats Luis Ramos by knockout at 0:40 of the first round.

Less than one minute into the opening round, highly touted Brazilian prospect Silva blasted Ramos with a overhand right. Ramos dropped to the canvas and Silva finished the fight a few more punches.

Silva, who has not lost since December 2006, was making his UFC debut in his home country. Unfortunately, Ramos' first UFC appearance did not go quite as well.

Silva has a bright future in the UFC's welterweight division.

Yuri Alcantara vs. Felipe Arantes

11 of 12

Yuri Alcantara defeats Felipe Arantes by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

Alcantara's ground game proved to be too much for his opponent at UFC 134. Despite some flashy striking from Arantes, Alcantara was able to consistently take the fight to the ground and land big shots from the half guard.

Arantes had some brief success in the third round after reversing Alcantara. However, it was too little too late, as Alcantara took a clear decision victory.

The win stretched Alcantara's impressive winning streak to 12 fights. Although it marked a loss in his UFC debut, Arantes earned some fans by showing a lot of heart in the third round of a fight that he was on his way to losing.

Yves Jabouin vs. Ian Loveland

12 of 12

Yves Jabouin defeats Ian Loveland by split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28).

Two non-Brazilian get the action started at UFC 134, the first UFC event to be held in Brazil since October 1993.

Loveland got off to a strong start and pushed the pace with an early takedown. However, Jabouin defended a submission attempt and was given the chance to strike after a referee stand-up.

Near the end of the first round, Jabouin cracked Loveland with a right hook that wobbled the American. Nonetheless, all three judges gave Loveland the first round.

However, Jabouin carried the momentum he gained with that punch through the final two rounds of the fight. Jabouin secured the second round with a late takedown, and he took the third round on two scorecards with his technical striking.

Judge Andy Roberts inexplicable awarded Loveland all three rounds. However, the two rounds given to Jabouin by the other two judges was enough to earn him the victory.

This was an important fight for Jabouin to win after losing three of his previous four bouts. On the other side of the spectrum, Loveland has now lost two straight fights, though he showed promise in his prior loss against Joseph Benavidez.
