Green Bay Packers Preseason Week 3: Predicting Best Performer at Each Position

Matt SteinJun 7, 2018

The Green Bay Packers travel to Indiana today to take on the Peyton Manning-less Indianapolis Colts. While the Colts have looked horrid without their star quarterback, Green Bay needs to come to play regardless.

It has been a rocky preseason so far for the Packers as they attempt to overcome the shortened offseason. There have been some difficulties, but overall, the Packers have looked good and should get everything straightened out before the start of the regular season.

As Green Bay begins to finalize their 53-man roster, numerous players will be fighting for a spot on the team and should bring their absolute best Friday night. Here are predictions for which player will have the best performance at each position against the Colts.

QB: Graham Harrell

1 of 15

The safe pick here would have been Aaron Rodgers or Matt Flynn as both have been very good throughout the first two weeks. However, I like to live on the edge, and Graham Harrell put on one fantastic performance last week.

He led the Packers on two scoring drives and posted a quarterback rating of over 100. He is a lock to make the final roster and with his performance in this game, he might make Matt Flynn trade bait.

RB: Ryan Grant

2 of 15

While Ryan Grant is still getting used to football after a serious injury, his performance so far in the preseason hasn't been very impressive.

That should stop this week as Grant will finally get back into his groove and find a good rhythm in Green Bay's offense. He is still fighting to get back his starting spot and needs to prove to Green Bay that he is still a capable starter.

FB: John Kuhn

3 of 15

Whenever the Green Bay Packers bring in a fullback, it will likely be John Kuhn.

He wins by default, but he is a fan favorite and a passionate player to watch.

WR: Chastin West

4 of 15

Last week against the Arizona Cardinals, Chastin West had a monster game.

He is still playing for a spot on the roster and I think he has another very impressive performance this week. It appeared as if he and Graham Harrell had a good connection last, week which should carry over.

He is a player with great hands who is quick and can make plays after the catch. Sounds like a good receiver to keep on the team to me.

TE: Jermichael Finley

5 of 15

Jermichael Finley made his much anticipated return to the football field last week and he certainly didn't disappoint.

He was targeted often by Rodgers and made the most out of his opportunities, reeling in four catchers in less than a quarter. The more he plays, the better he will get and the more he will begin to dominate.

This game, against a weak secondary, don't be surprised if Finley has a huge game.

OT: Bryan Bulaga

6 of 15

Entering his second year as a starter, Bryan Bulaga is one of the few offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers that has looked good through the first two preseason games.

He should keep his high level of play up this week and give Packers fans hope that Aaron Rodgers won't die by sacks this year.

OG: T.J. Lang

7 of 15

Offensive guard is the position that has been struggling most throughout the preseason. Neither T.J. Lang nor Derek Sherrod have played well.

The easy pick here would have been Josh Sitton, but I believe that Lang will come to play and cement his role as a starting guard on Green Bay's offensive line.

C: Scott Wells

8 of 15

Scott Wells has little competition to lose his job to, but he has still played well in the preseason.

After Jason Spitz was let go, some thought that center would be a weak spot for the Green Bay Packers. Wells has done a nice job and put to rest any doubters out there.

DE: Jarius Wynn

9 of 15

With both C.J. Wilson and Mike Neal struggling with injuries, Jarius Wynn has gotten plenty of playing time. This has been a great opportunity for Wynn to show what he is capable of.

At times, Wynn has shown flashes of brilliance and looks like he is ready to make a significant contribution off the bench. He will play well enough tonight to let the Packers know that if Neal, Wilson or Pickett go down with major injuries, he will be ready to step in.

DT: B.J. Raji

10 of 15

B.J. Raji is unstoppable.

After an impressive season last year, Raji will build on that success and continue his dominance along the defensive line. Playing against the Indianapolis Colts' weak offensive line, he should have a field day and be able to disrupt the Colts' offense with regularity.

Raji will be a key player for the Green Bay Packers' defense, so it is nice to see him playing well already.

OLB: Brad Jones

11 of 15

With Frank Zombo set to miss a good amount of time due to injury, Erik Walden and Brad Jones will need to show they can produce playing opposite of Clay Matthews.

Neither Zombo, Walden nor Jones have been impressive so far and I personally feel that Walden and Jones will continue to struggle. However, Jones will play better and finally take some pressure off of Matthews' shoulders.

ILB: Rob Francois

12 of 15

Rob Francois is another player who is fighting for a roster spot, but he has been playing great throughout the preseason.

He is second on the team in tackles and has been making plays all over the field. There is no way he makes a run to start at inside linebacker, but he should make the final roster and provide some quality depth at his position.

CB: Jarrett Bush

13 of 15

Surprisingly, Green Bay's cornerbacks haven't been too impressive this preseason. The Packers have one of the deepest groups in the league, but they have definitely struggled at times.

Jarrett Bush is still behind Pat Lee and Sam Shields as a backup corner, but at times, he has been the best cornerback on the field for Green Bay. He is fighting for a roster spot with other young cornerbacks and needs to have a good game to stay on the team.

I think he plays well enough tonight to assure him a final place on the team.

FS: Nick Collins

14 of 15

Nick Collins is one of the best free safeties in the NFL, and he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.

He has been fantastic through the first two preseason games and will continue to play at a high level. With the cornerbacks struggling, Collins' play has been a relief for Packers fans everywhere.

SS: Morgan Burnett

15 of 15

Morgan Burnett is returning from a season-ending injury last year and is off to a fantastic start in the preseason.

Last week against the Arizona Cardinals, Burnett was one of the Green Bay Packers' top performers. He made numerous plays in the secondary and showed his excellent instincts and playmaking abilities.

By the end of the preseason, Burnett will be on everyone's radar and will be one of the top young safeties throughout the regular season.
