WWE: Alberto Del Rio and Why Destiny Should Mean Money
I find that I still can't get interested in the WWE's Alberto Del Rio character and I finally figured out why. He is someone who goes in and fights every week and usually looks impressive. There is nothing wrong with that and I don't mind a heel being booked strong, but he can't just be a tough guy.
He needs to be a little bit self deluded and use Social Darwinism if he wants to be hated.
Many people have made the comparison that he is a Latino JBL. This is a little incorrect as JBL had two things going for him that Del Rio doesn't. He had an entourage to protect him and, at some points, he genuinely believed he was a compassionate human being.

Del Rio's problem is that the WWE is trying to carbon copy it when they shouldn't be. There are things that should be followed, but at the same time, he has the potential to be something a little different.
Yes, Del Rio should have protection.
He should bring Brodus Clay back into the fold and find one or two people to put under him who will do whatever they need to for money. Chavo Guerrero would have been great for this, but that is neither here nor there.
Yes Del Rio should use his money to try and win over the fans and bribe the wrestlers into helping him win matches.
However, this doesn't mean he should be booked as a cowardly heel.
Instead he should be given a character that believes that it's okay to use his money to get things done because destiny allowed him to be born into a rich family. If destiny didn't want him to use his money and prestige then why would it have given him these things in the first place.
He doesn't mean to be better than you, but he was chosen by destiny to have these things, to be born in this era with that body.
Social Darwinism meets delusion. It's perfect for him. That way he really does believe everything he says, and, at the same time, if he is forced to face an opponent one on one, he doesn't run. After all he can't lose. He was chosen by destiny.
If he does lose? The world is against him and everyone is conspiring to keep him down. People who shouldn't be involved are getting in the way so he has to use his bodyguards and money. After all, they shouldn't be there!
The more he deludes himself, the more he sees himself as the misunderstood hero.
This way he isn't JBL. He isn't Ted DiBiase. He isn't a rich man who doesn't care if he uses his money to get whatever he wants. He is the champion of champions who just has to be given a fair shot, by his definition, to show everyone else what he already knows.
With these changes Alberto could be the number one heel on RAW.
It's just up to the WWE to know that.
