Christian's Top 5 WWE Title Wins in His Career
My last two countdowns focused on Mark Henry and Randy Orton. Those two men will be Smackdown's main event picture for the time being, and I love it.
Of course, that leaves Christian out in the cold. Well, not for much longer! Today, I am going to countdown his top title wins in WWE.
Few things to remember:
1. TNA does not count, and I will ignore his time there.
2. His tag team title runs do not count—this is about his singles' career.
5. Lightweight Winner
1 of 5Wow! What a gimmick change will do for someone! Christian, a relative newcomer to the company, challenged Taka for the Light Heavyweight Championship, and it was a pretty good match.
Nothing off the charts or special, but for Christian's career, it was a big deal. Winning your first single's title is always a big deal.
Sadly, he would go on to bigger and better things, and thus, winning this title did not make as much of a splash as some of his other wins...
4. World Title Win by DQ
2 of 5This little gem happened last month at Money in the Bank. I do not even have to get into how weak this made him look (before, during and after the match); however, he still captured the World title.
That can't be taken away from him, and doing it for a second time is a major achievement that many do not get to experience even once!
Again, I did not expect a long title run or at least anything more than a month, but being a two-time World Champion is a huge deal in this business.
3. ECW Title Wins
3 of 5Yes, I am cheating here a little. Christian returned in 2009 and immediately was put into the ECW title picture on Sy-Fy, and it was a great move.
Most wanted him on Raw or Smackdown, but him getting "his" own one hour show upon returning to the company was a big honor to give him, and everything worked out.
He won the title at Backlash 2009 over Jack Swagger, and would drop it to Tommy Dreamer a few months later, only to get it right back a month after that.
For close to nine months, he was the top dog on ECW, and it was a great title win(s) for him.
2. IC Title Battle Royal Win
4 of 5This was his major break-out moment. Winning the IC title in a battle royal back at Judgment Day 2003 was a huge win for Christian.
Then followed a new theme song, a new haircut, a new attitude, everything. He was finally a "serious" wrestler on the roster, and it worked out best for him.
A couple IC title runs, a team with Jericho, a little run with Trish Stratus as a heel couple...
It all started by his Intercontinental title win in the spring of 2003.
Fast forward eight years...
1. First World Title Win
5 of 5What a moment this was! For fans and haters alike, this was what "epic" is all about!
After a distraction from Edge, Christian bested Alberto Del Rio and won his first World title in WWE.
Wow, just watching that back brings a tear to a glass eye...Amazing moment for Christian to experience, and to have Edge there to "pass the torch" was fitting in every way possible.
Add in the fact it was a ladder match and that Edge had just retired—the story wrote itself.
While I can't source it, I remember reading that when Christian walked behind the curtain, he jumped into Vince's arms and said "Thank you" over and over.
No joke! That is how much this match meant to him and to all of his fans.
