UFC on Versus 6: 6 Questions That Will Be Answered
On Oct. 1, the UFC makes its way to our nation's capital for the first time in the promotion's history!
In addition to being in DC for the first time, it will be the first title fight on free TV since UFC 75 more than four years ago.
The main event features Dominick Cruz (18-1) defending his bantamweight title against Demetrious Johnson (10-1).
The co-main event will have the tallest heavyweight, 6'11" Stefan Struve, taking on 5'11" Pat Barry, in a matchup of great kickboxers.
Rounding out the main card is Anthony Johnson taking on Charlie Brenneman, and Mac Danzig facing off against Matt Wiman, in a rematch of their UFC 115 bout.
Read on to see six questions that will be answered come fight night.
Will Matt Wiman Finish What He Started Against Mac Danzig?
1 of 7At UFC 115, Matt Wiman faced off against Mac Danzig on the preliminary card, and this one had quite the controversial ending.
At 1:45 of the first round, referee Yves Lavigne thought that Danzig had gone unconscious from a guillotine choke being applied by Wiman, and he stopped the fight.
One problem. Danzig was still quite conscious and had not tapped, and he immediately protested the stoppage.
This one was an obvious bad stoppage, and although the immediate rematch did not materialize, they now get the chance to fight again.
Let's hope this one can go off without a hitch.
Was Charlie Brenneman a One-Hit Wonder?
2 of 7Charlie Brenneman is known to most as the guy who upset Rick Story on short notice at UFC on Versus 4.
Brenneman was able to outwrestle Story, and win the unanimous decision victory.
Now he gets a step up in competition, but is Anthony Johnson too much too soon?
Will Brenneman be able to deal with Rumble? Or will he be as much of a one-hit wonder as the Baha Men?
Will Anthony Johnson Climb Up the Ladder Again?
3 of 7Anthony Johnson will be looking to begin his climb back up the welterweight ladder after suffering a submission loss to Josh Koscheck in November 2009.
Since then, Johnson has had to deal with several injuries, and he made his return against Dan Hardy back in March.
Johnson was able to win a unanimous decision after he "punked" Hardy by taking him down and using his wrestling to control him for the better part of three rounds.
Johnson has been no more than average since he was first signed to the UFC, going 6-3, with losses to Rich Clementi, Josh Koscheck, and we're going to ignore the terrible refereeing of Steve Mazzagatti in the loss to Kevin Burns.
Johnson won the decision over Hardy, and with a win over Brenneman, he could start climbing up the welterweight ladder once again.
Does Size Really Matter?
4 of 7This fight is going to be outstanding.
Pat Barry, 5'11'' will be taking on Stefan Struve, 6'11''.
This one is going to be a stand-up war for as long as it lasts.
You can expect Barry will want to go out and chop down Struve's legs with kicks, and Struve will want to slightly lift his knee and hit Barry on the jaw.
But when it comes down to it, we'll find out if size really does matter that night.
Can Demetrious Johnson Win Gold at Bantamweight?
5 of 7There's almost nobody who's giving Demetrious Johnson a chance against Dominick Cruz.
People are already talking about Johnson against Joseph Benavidez for the UFC flyweight title, but that doesn't exist yet.
Could Johnson, at only 5'2'', beat Dominick Cruz and wear UFC gold at bantamweight?
He'll have to use his powerful wrestling and quickness if he has any hopes of it.
Can Dominick Cruz Extend His Win Streak to 10?
6 of 7Dominick Cruz has quietly acquired one of the longest winning streaks in Zuffa. He is currently on a nine fight winning streak overall, and an eight-fight win streak between the WEC and UFC.
Since his drop to bantamweight, Cruz has been unstoppable, and he has avenged the only defeat of his career to Urijah Faber.
Could he extend his winning streak to 10 fights?
But not only will we find out about his win streak, we'll find out if his lanky body at 5'8'', 135 pounds will be able to stop the small powerful body of Demetrious Johnson.
