WWE Countdown: Top 5 Randy Orton Title Wins
We all know Orton just won the World Title back on Sunday, and we all know about the uproar (again...) over the title switch. However, while many know that Orton has won quite a few titles in his WWE career thus far, not a whole lot of them were memorable.
Today, I will challenge that notion and find his top five title wins. Some will be for secondary titles, as they were major moment for him, while others will include much bigger wins.
With that being said, let's do this!
5. IC Title Win over RVD
1 of 5This happened at the end of 2003, and it was his first major title. It even featured Mick Foley as special guest referee, and that would become a major storyline soon after this.
Winning your first major title in this business is always a great thing to experience. What made it even bigger? His stable (Evolution) would go on to win both the tag titles as well as the World Title all in one night.
Memorable title win for Orton, but it would easily be topped...
4. Rated RKO Win Tag Team Titles
2 of 5This was such a great tag team back in 2006 and 2007. It was exactly what Raw needed at the time. DX was running the show, and they needed two heels to challenge them.
Who fit the bill perfectly? Edge and Randy Orton! They even got their own music for a while. Sadly, as all tag teams go, once they win the titles, it is all downhill from there.
We never really did get a full-blown Edge/Orton feud in 2007, but what can you do? They made great tag team champions and Orton can look back at his tag team title run and be proud!
3. Orton Beats Christian on Smackdown for World Title
3 of 5This one is very recent, but the reaction it got was just ridiculous. Months later, and some still can't let it go. My god, what a week this was!
Christian wins his first ever World Title, and Randy Orton beats him for it two days later (5 days on TV). Wow, the outcry here was just "too much." Really, it was.
What made this big for Orton was the seal of approval that Smackdown was now "his show," and what a big moment for him.
2. Orton Beats Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match for WWE Title
4 of 5Folks, watch that video clip! That is the JR we need back on Monday nights, not a third wheel trying to say a line every minute or so.
This was the beginning of the "Post-Cena Era," as he had just been injured a few days earlier, and WWE needed a strong heel run. Who did they turn to? Randy Orton.
After a crazy night at No Mercy 2007, Orton bested Triple H in a grueling match to take home the WWE Title and would go on to hold the title for over six months. That includes a shocking title defense over Cena and Triple H at WrestleMania 24.
1. Randy Wins His First World Title in 2004
5 of 5Hindsight being 20/20, this was too early for him. Yes, we can go back seven years and nitpick the following night's events (Evolution destroying him) and how quickly he lost the title.
We COULD do that, but that is for a different day. Winning your first World Title in the WWE is a major moment, whether anybody cares to ever watch this match again or not. I know I can't.
Nonetheless, it was a great Summerslam main event, and it even featured a clean winner—that only helped Orton's cause for the future.
It is too bad such a big moment for Orton will be buried in WWE Headquarters somewhere, but for this list, the No. 1 choice was clear.
