Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Jose Enrique Not Last Target for Kenny Dalglish
Liverpool finally had a look at their £50 million summer transfer signings last week and if early results mean anything to their wallet, they probably won't put an end to their spending just yet.
With newcomers Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Jose Enrique on the pitch at Anfield, the Reds could muster only a 1-1 tie with an overmatched Sunderland squad on Saturday. Liverpool looked strong early on, moving the ball at will against the Black Cats' defense, before that magic vanished into thin air ahead of the half.
Of course, one match does not a season make or break, though a draw against a middling Barclays Premier League side certainly doesn't bode well for the Reds going forward.

Keep in mind that Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has been under the gun to get the club back up to snuff with the rest of the top tier in the Premiership after their sixth-place finish in 2010-11 amidst a campaign fraught with distraction and controversy.
Since Dalglish returned to Anfield in January, he and director of football Damien Comolli have spent well over £100 million in transfer fees to remake the stale side, with more than half of that spent to bring on strikers Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.
Still, plenty of cash remains in the coffers for Dalglish to ensure that his side stays on the upswing. So who else might he attempt to bring on before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of August?
The first £105 million of that transfer budget was spent on offensive players, with the last £6 million shelled out to Dalglish's first defensive improvement in the person of new left back Jose Enrique. While Enrique may be the first big change to Liverpool's defense this summer, he won't likely be the last.
According to Aidan Donovan of Fanatix, Kop brass is considering a player-plus-cash deal with Bolton Wanderers to acquire Gary Cahill. Such a pact would likely send French striker David N'Gog—whom Trotters boss Owen Coyle has long coveted—along with £14 million to Reebok Stadium.
Cahill has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with fellow Premiership sides Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea having also inquired about the 25-year-old Briton, whom Bolton has valued at £18 million.
Cahill would represent a tremendous upgrade to Dalglish's available crop of centre backs, which currently includes the injured Daniel Agger and the aging Jamie Carragher and Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Additionally, Cahill would give the Reds a leg up over their league competitors who've worked so diligently to steer him in their respective directions.
Ryan Shawcross
If a Cahill deal doesn't come through, Dalglish will likely turn his attention back to Ryan Shawcross.
The 23-year-old centre back has been the subject of Dalglish's wandering eye in recent weeks. According to FansFC.com, Shawcross remains firmly in the frame of the Liverpool boss' gaze. Dalglish's advances were rebuffed just last week when he offered £10 million for Shawcross to Stoke City manager Tony Pulis, who seems intent to keep the rising star at Britannia Stadium.
The latest report has the Reds offering that same £10 million along with misfit midfielder Christian Poulsen to complete a deal for Shawcross.
Whether or not this works out Dalglish still deserves some credit for his creativity. Shawcross has established himself as one of the elite central defenders in the Premiership since moving from Manchester United to Stoke City in 2007. By pulling off a Shawcross-for-Poulsen-and-cash swap, the Reds would not only strengthen their back line significantly now and for years to come, but would also rid themselves of yet another of the misguided signings made during the short-lived Roy Hodgson era.
Hugo Rodallega
As far as offensive talents are concerned, Liverpool are likely satisfied with Carroll and Suarez up front for now, but are still keeping tabs on Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega.
Per Mirror Football, the Latics have benched the 26-year-old Colombian due to his refusal to sign an extension to remain at DW Stadium beyond this season. Rodallega is in the midst of the final year of his current deal and appears keen to leave Wigan for a bigger club next summer.
Latics chairman Dave Whelan doesn't want to lose Rodallega for nothing, but may have to give in to the whims of Liverpool and Tottenham. Both have been mentioned in connection with the striker and both sent scouts to Wigan's season opener against the Canaries last week.
It's tough to imagine the Reds springing for another offensive player right now, much less Rodallega muscling his way onto Dalglish's first-team squad. However, with the way things have gone at Anfield since January, there's no telling how the versatile Rodallega might fit in if and when he arrives in Merseyside.
