Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Doesn't Care About Money, Only About Testing
Floyd Mayweather recently spoke about how he values proper drug testing over how much money he can make in the ring.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Mayweather said the following about stringent drug testing and facing Manny Pacquiao:
"I don't care how much money is negotiated...Look at how these guys end up punch-drunk in this sport. I'm sorry, but all of a sudden a guy at 25 becomes a great fighter? I want to be on a level playing field with this guy. We're fighting at the highest level, talking about the biggest fight ever. You should have the greatest testing too.
"
Mayweather feels he has and can generate money at any time but doesn't want to face someone who is on something he can't prepare for. The variety of drugs on the market is vast, hence the demand for strict drug testing.
Famous boxers Roy Jones, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas and James Toney have each been caught or admitted to using drugs to enhance their performance, but each used a different drugs.
Though a fight with Pacquiao is said to net Mayweather possibly the biggest purse of all time, he had this to say about fighting for money:
"Anytime I lace them up now, just know it's over $50 million. So it's not about the money. I can get the money in any fight I take. It's about me being able to say, "This is what I want."
"
And hopefully Mayweather will get what he wants so the hotly anticipated fight can happen.
Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum have already stated that they'll accept the terms as long as a few details are ironed out first as to how and who performs the testing.
