Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: 2011 Speed Demons, Vol. 9

Just because you’ve slipped behind in the stolen base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up. 

Here are some reasonably available stolen base options:

José Constanza, Atlanta Braves

Constanza has taken the league by storm, batting .414 since making his debut on July 29th. He has scored 14 runs, hit two home runs, collected eight RBI and stolen five bases.

He plays outfield and is owned in 21.1 percent of ESPN leagues.

Eric Young Jr., Colorado Rockies

Young had five stolen bases over the past 15 days while hitting .255 with eight runs and three RBI. On the year, he’s hitting .230 with 18 runs, six RBI and 11 stolen bases.

He has second base and outfield eligibility and is owned in less than five percent of fantasy leagues.

Johnny Giavotella, Kansas City Royals

Giovotella is batting .333 since debuting on August 5th. He has scored five runs, hit one home run and has four RBI and four stolen bases in his 11 games.

Giavotella plays second base and is owned in less than five percent of fantasy leagues.

Franklin Gutiérrez, Seattle Mariners

Gutiérrez is hitting .348 over the past 15 days with six runs, three RBI and three stolen bases. On the year, he’s hitting just .223 with 20 runs, one home run, 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases, so be aware that he can cool off dramatically.

Franklin plays outfield and is owned in less than 10 percent of fantasy leagues. 

Will Venable, San Diego Padres

Venable had three stolen bases over the past 15 days while hitting .400 with nine runs, one home run and seven RBI. His hot streak has raised his average to .268 with 37 runs, four home runs, 25 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

He plays outfield and is owned in less than five percent of fantasy leagues.

Alcides Escobar, Kansas City Royals

Escobar is hitting .298 this month with five runs, four RBI and three stolen bases. On the year, he’s hitting .251 with 52 runs, two home runs, 37 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

Alcides plays shortstop and is owned in 25 percent of Yahoo! and 45.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
