Colorado Rockies: 5 Ways the Rockies Can Improve in 2012

Alex ShoemakerJun 7, 2018

Unfortunately, the Rockies’ chances of making the post season are fading away very quickly.

In fact, unless there is a comeback like that of two seasons ago, it would be nearly impossible.

Now Rockies fans can look towards the 2012 season and beyond.

Here are the five things the Rockies should improve for the 2012 season.

5. Move on from 2009 Season

1 of 5

The 2009 season was a special season that likely will never be duplicated.

With that in mind, it’s time for fans and the organization to realize that the team needs to make some big moves to be postseason relevant.

The NL West is not the cupcake it was a half decade ago. To keep up with the Giants and Diamondbacks, it’s time to live in the present.

4. Grab a Big Bat

2 of 5

While the Rockies aren’t terrible, they could use another big bat to beef up the line-up.

The Rockies are No. 12 in the league in slugging percentage, and Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez are the two best threats for Colorado.

You add another cleanup hitter to that lineup, than they become very dangerous.

But, probably not the guy pictured here.

3. Improved Fan Support

3 of 5

The Rockies have to compete with a lot of big teams.

In basketball you have the Denver Nuggets. Then football brings the very popular Denver Broncos and Colorado Buffaloes. Fans, you need to pick up your team and show them you care.

The Rockies are in the middle of the pack in average attendance. That needs to change.

2. Get Jhoulys Chacin Another Big Name Pitcher

4 of 5

The Rockies are really bad at pitching. And I mean really bad.

Colorado is No. 25 in team ERA, and only Chacin gives you a solid starter.

This offseason, the Rockies need to improve their rotation.

Even adding one solid third or forth pitcher would help.

1. Dump Jim Tracy

5 of 5

This might be a little controversial, but it needs to be said.

Tracy has a career post-season record of 2-6, and has not proven he can lead a ball club in October.

Tracy was great in 2009 when he replaced Clint Hurdle, but each year has gotten worse.

It’s time for a young and fresh start.

Sorry Tracy.

It's time for you to go.
